And here we are, perched on the steep sides of the Surrey Hills, in 40mph gusts, but thankfully the rain stayed away. It all went a bit awry when I found myself pointing straight down the hill with only the tripod to stop me sliding down. Bad Planning! Still was determined to capture a shot thats only available for three months of the year, probably one of only two chances to get this shot this year.

Ah! good old Ranmore! I remember having a picnic up there on 26th June 1965 to celebrate my father's birthday. I was only a small child and sadly remember little about the railway action, as I wasn't interested in trains then but it's incredible to think there were still Moguls working the line in those days. Still a lovely spot, although you (unsurprisingly) didn't have anything like the weather we enjoyed on that loveky summer day.Still, thanks for posting.

What a great day for main line steam. Three superb machines out and about and performing well.

    Hmmm.
Anyone logging the Tornado trip could answer that. Anyone logging the other 2 would have been second-guessing which notch the diesel was in.

    Super video!
Mr K, you've won your Boy Scouts Mountaineering Badge!

Here's my effort from a slightly less precarious position as Tornado whistles through the woods at Worplesdon.

Definitely a Blue Peter badge for braving the extremes of the weather to record the only "proper" steam hauled train of the day. Kudos MrK!,

I would add some likes for the videos shown above, but cannot bring myself to do that for a foreign engine invading sovereign SR territory.

I will therefore carry them forward and award them as extras when videos of steam locomotives operating in their correct region are posted.

Thanking you all in advance for your tolerance, (or otherwise*), of my intolerance. :)

Don't worry, there were enough MNLPS members crawling around the loco on Friday, and in the support coach on Saturday, to make 60163 an honorary Southern engine for the day; and at least it has the correct number of cylinders!

Have a heart. Just pretend the numbers got mixed up and it's one of Drummond's L11s - 30166 - like this

It might have puffed a bit around the Surrey Hills though!

Aren't the Peppercorn pacifics already honourary Southern locos? IIRC, some were drafted into the region to cover when the Merchant Navy locos were withdrawn following the Crewkerne accident.

What did they use during the rebuilding incident?

I think you will find that most of the Belmond Pullmans run without a diesel as heat is provided by a generator coach, as here. It would be interesting to get the breakdown of diesel versus generator coach formations during 2015 to confirm if my guess is right. In any event, to see this heavy train without a diesel on the back adds justs a little more excitement and underpins the faith NR and the loco ownwers have in Tornado's (and Clan Line) to run reliably and to time.
