Congratulations to the Daniel Adamson Preservation Society on the award of their £4m lottery grant.
I presume that we'll be getting her in Cammell Lairds for the work to be done.

Brilliant News........look forward to riding her up the Ship Canal in 2016.

Thanks to all the hard work put in by their working members these last few years and Dan and his team for the successful bid.

Well Done - getting lottery money for marine projects is not always as easy task.

Hi, thanks for all your kind words and sentiments.
Yes it has been a long, hard road. The 30 months or so since our last bid was rejected has been particularly long and arduous but we have arrived at last in terms of what we saw, 11 years ago, as a reason to save her and that was the prospect of lottery funding to return her to service.
Yes, maritime projects and HLF don't always Marry it has to be said.
Now we have to make this lump of iron actually work!

The Daniel Adamson website now has a live webcam at no. 4 dock in Cammell Lairds which is a brilliant way of checking on progress.
I might suggest that the yard installs one at the other 3 dry docks so I can check on our workmen bunking off early, without leaving my office.

Walking through the shipyard this afternoon it was nice to see two steam tugs , Daniel Adamson & Kerne, in the corner of the fitting -out basin, mingling with R.F.A. 'Wave Ruler' , Calmac 'Loch Portain' , I.O.M.S.P. Co. 'Manannan' & R.F.A. 'Fort Austin'.
A further preserved tug , M.T. 'Brocklebank', is sharing a dry-dock with Calmac 'Clansman'.
After seeing the amount of barnacles being removed from the bottom of 'Brocklebank' I would imagine that her fuel bill will be much reduced.

There's a fairly new pub in Crewe called the Brocklebank, I wonder if there's a link?

The Brocklebank was named after Brocklebank dock in Liverpool. Many of the Mersey tugs were named after the docks in the Liverpool system.
Some years ago a French destroyer was visiting Liverpool & a Scouse tug company manager sent out 'Wellington' & 'Waterloo' to tow her in.
The French captain complained about this, so when she was leaving they sent 'Nelson' & 'Trafalgar'.

Walking through the shipyard this morning I saw smoke rising from 'Daniel Adamson's' funnel. The warming fire had been lit last night, so it would appear that she will be in steam sometime over the weekend. Well done to all concerned in the restoration.

Cruises about to start- Unique opportunity to be one of the first to sail on the Danny following her multi million pound re-build AND sail on the rarely explored River Weaver:

enquiries@danieladamson.co.uk if you have any questions.

Tickets are £50 per person or £45 for members Book online atwww.thedanny.co.uk

A message from our Chairman Dan Cross
The River Weaver is Cheshire’s hidden Gem, a glorious and scenic waterway cutting right through the heart of the Cheshire countryside while it’s history and architecture remind us of it’s once important status as a commercial waterway.
I grew up and worked on the weaver and am delighted that thanks to the co-operation and determination of the Canal & River Trust in dredging the waterway, we are able to bring the Daniel Adamson up the river to Acton Bridge for the Little Leigh Steam Party.
Bringing up to one hundred passengers into the heart of Cheshire is a vital step in what we hope will become a regular cruising ground for the Daniel Adamson, which we believe to have never navigated the Weaver before and a fitting cruise to mark the completion of the near £3Million re-fit of the vessel, made possible by the generosity of the Heritage Lottery Fund, over one hundred thousand hours of work by our volunteers and donations in cash and kind from many other bodies and organisations since 2004.

Visited the Little Leigh Steam Party this morning not realising that DA would be there, had a good look round her and spoke to several of the very helpful staff. What a great job has been done on the restoration so congratulations to all concerned.

Not my usual steam fare at Frodsham but I've wanted some pictures of something other than narrowboats on the Weaver for some time. So here is DA passing the recently restored Sutton Weaver swing bridge.

Didn't realise until today that this was a passenger trip. From the website it looks like it may happen again next year, I may be tempted !
