Railcar "Olive" that is owned by the EM2 Preservaton society and recently repainted at the KWVR last years was sadly set on fire at its home on the Middleton Railway earlier this week

the interior has been totally gutted by the fire and they await insurance assessment

And no doubt those responsible think what a wonderful fire it made !!!

If I had my way and could identify those responsible I would love to set their property on fire - preferably their car(s) but their house would do; then they could come home to a REAL fire !!

Agree, an eye for an eye in cases like this seems better than wasting taxpayers money on jail or young offender schemes, just destroy something they value highly so they can see what it's like, about time people understood this weeks little s**t of the month can always buy a new playstation or whatever, a unique item of rolling stock however, can be lost forever and they should be punished with this in mind, not just the value on paper, this is history afterall, once it's gone it's gone.

Whilst I've noted from what I've seen posted up help and finance is not been asked for currently could this be an opportunity for the youngsters on here (I include myself as I'm under 30) to spearhead its restoration.

As far as some spares Barnsley isn't far away where a lot of buses are scrapped. This may be a useful source to get items such as seats from.

So easy to destroy things, who ever did this is a coward and a disgrace. So sorry for those who gave their time to restore it to such a fine condition, now all ruined. I wish you luck if its still able to be saved. Fire is a worry all the time without idiots doing this on purpose.

Indeed Carlton Bus dismantlers are not far away from Leeds, but older type buses are becoming thin on the ground nowadays.

Definitely worth a "Crowd giving" or net based fundraiser once the many paperwork issues are sorted.

I would imagine there are many volunteers who give a day of there time to help EM2 Society to put this "wrong" right with the right sort of PR.

Imagine the outrage if it was DP1 another one off of the railway world?

Whilst I commend your outrage and would quite happily burn the little sh*ts property or them themselves. I understand their ambivalence toward our heritage.

I was in Prague a few weeks ago and had the privilege of being shown some revered catholic artifacts. There was so much (to me dull stuff) religious hardware that I suggested that some of it could be sold off. My guide was aghast and started to explain the importance of every exhibit, to me it could have been Disneyland or Santa's Grotto such is my interest in religion, but I did understand that what is sacrosanct to one person is absolutely worthless to another.

However, one should always respect anothers persons views, opinions and beliefs.

Those little sh*ts have not, so should not expect a reasonable outcome (if caught) for their unreasonable actions.

I am not a diesel enthusiast but Olive looked really good in her green livery. I am a Middleton volunteer (on an occasional basis as I live 250 miles away) and they suffer more than there share of vandalism and theft. I am sure all support will be appreciated but I think the team behind Olive are re wondering if they have the energy to restore her so offers of physical help will be appreciated.

They have a Victorian planned for mid July with an interesting steam loco being sought. See their events page at www.middletonrailway.org.uk/.
