    TIDY TRAIN - 18TH 19TH & 20TH MARCH (UNLOADING 21ST)

In March we are looking to run tidy trains over a number of days including the weekend of 19th and 20th March. If you would like to take part loading the trains (PTS required) please let me have your name, phone number, email address and the days you are able to help. We also need help organising and running the days or we shall not be able to run it at all; all safety paperwork/assessments will be provided, but we need a person in charge to deliver the brief and coordinate the trains each day. Please contact me if you are interested in either participating or leading.

DONIFORD HALT FOOTPATH - SPRING 2016

We are looking for help to build a new footpath across a field from Doniford Halt towards Doniford Farm (PTS is NOT required). Working days are not yet determined but it is likely we shall make a start in April. We need muscle for moving materials, plant operators (with suitable tickets!) and folk to help organise the work. If you are able to help with this project please contact me.

Don't like to be picky Robin, but are they spraying the white edgeing or laying a narrow carpet of snowdrops?

Except IIRC the electrical systems on the prototype are different from those on regular HST powercars.

No, they are using a large petrol driven piece of equipment to take a slice off the coping stones which were found to be tight to gauge...

Not sure I understand your question?

    Here is an interesting observation.
It would seem that if the weather is cold then steam rising from a loco can condense on the roof of the new BL ash shelter. If it condenses enough it then drips down onto the crew during morning prep. In fairness it was -6 C at the time.

Pardon my ignorance but I thought station cats found plenty of food for themselves or is it not sufficient? Just curious.:)

In the "good old days" when railways carried all manner of things there were lots of mice and other pests to hunt down.in these more hygienic times some supplementary feeding is needed to ensure good health.

As a member of "National union of cats" it sticks by the rule that a hungry cat isn't any good for work and work can only be sleeping on the job and be made a fuss over if in the mood. Other wise it will go on strike and cause chaos by knocking the mug of drink over the paper work etc. :D

Thanks for that. Does she have any particular favourite brand of cat food, and can donations be left with Keith Sandford?

I remember being told a few years about the Wolverhampton High Level station cat. Apparently one afternoon the 3 o'clock local train from Stafford pulled into the station the doors opened and off popped a ginger tom cat who sniffed the air a bit and decided to stay. He was then fed and fussed by everyone in and around the place till the end of his days complete with the name Stafford!

In BR days I believe the station cat was a staff member on station records and had a food allowance in lieu of pay

Gauge checking at Williton? Does the need to trim the platform edge mean that the track relay was slightly out of position or is there some other reason? Just curious.
