    Not your fault! A combination of WCR's woes and Network Rail's (non) gauging department lack of output have resulted in time running out to organise the move up north. This is the second attempt to get the 'old girl' lifting her skirts and exercising her legs on the big railway to Keighley. She will have to sit in a corner and watch the S&D world go by instead of supping the best Yorkshire water.

    Almost certainly by road. It is not passed to run on the mainline, not even if towed.

    Do the cardan drive shafts have to be removed for road travel or are extra long ramps used to reduce the angles.

    No idea, Brian! Hopefully someone will be able to answer. It last went out by road to the G/WR Diesel Gala in 2014. (Before anyone else states the obvious, yes, I know it had to because the G/WR is not rail connected!)

    This was the biggest reason why the DEPG locos had not gone visiting railways in the past.
    AIUI the lorry trailer that is used is slightly lower or can be lowered and longer ramps used to reduce the angles and load it with the shafts connected.
    I was not involved but I am sure that was what I was told when at WN .
    Maybe someone with more knowledge from the DEPG will pop along and confirm or deny!

    Today's contribution to the 'Williton works' series. Switches of old 16 points now plain line, but some tamping still to be done.

    Yes it's great to have 88 back in steam again. I love riding behind this noble railway engine.

    On behalf of everyone who has worked on her, our thanks for the supportive comment. Thanks must go to the team in the shed at minehead who have worked on the overhaul and the team of dedicated voulnteers many of who have given days of work to the loco. Our hope now is that it will be enjoyed by everyone at the gala and for the coming seasons at the WSR.

    Presumably a final salary (food converted to £) pension as well, for when it got too old to work any more.

    Have a look at the news item about the QB at the Gala on www.wsr.org.uk

    The first positive story related to the change of WSRA Trustees.

    The first of many, methinks...:cool::cool::cool:

    Great news. It looks as though there is a good chance of people pulling together and the WSRA returning to being a useful organisation.

    It's not just water though, the sheets are galvanized and the drips are staining the paintwork on the engines! It's not easy stuff to remove.
