The 'run it for more than the gala' message was passed on when it was only FS announced.

Right, so a bit of flexibility. The one question is when is the next event/duty for FS after the SVR ASG? As the mutterings I've heard suggest a move to extend it's stay in that direction.

The events page and online calendar have yet to be updated.

 

Also the website now says early March for the adavnce tickets rather than late February.
I expect an announcement or two this coming week.

 

A longer run would be fantastic for me, and probably necessary with Scotsman coming. My work means I usually only get Monday off, and it would nice to be able to make a day of it. Even better if there was over night running on the Sunday night/Monday morning, but I think that is more of a dream.

 

Hmm... *Rumour Alert* (well slightly more reliable than normal) there may be no overnight running at this years "ASG".

 

That would be a shame. I know it had got a bit rowdy in the last couple of years, but last year didn't seem too bad from where I was dozing. An extra day seems like a good idea to me.

That would be a shame. When I have had the weekend off, I have done at least 2 days to get in some night running. Without it, it would be a much less appealing prospect, particularly given that that day time services will be packed due to Scotsman anyway.

 

Better book a Hotel then!

Not really due to any rowdiness, more due to the plans for the FS running.

Actually it's two days, though a monday seems a little odd...It may just have been what was available.

 

I visit the SVR several times a year, for me it's the line everyone should strive to be (personal opinion - I know others will disagree).

But messing with something that works, and has worked for a long time, is risky. For all the plaudits of raising £3million in the last Share issue, looking at it frankly that was only 75% of the target. Why - because those loyal to the SVR didn't agree with the plans that many felt would ruin the look of Bridgnorth. Ok the plans have been changed, but it doesn't remove the initial upset that could so easily have been avoided.

Similar situation here. I have no doubt the A1/A3 combo will sell out, and lots of money will be made from Mr & Mrs Joe Public plus 2.4 kids. But at what cost with those who have supported the SVR the other previous events? You can offer a 3-day event in November, but with shorter days & colder nights the all-night running is not as enticing as it is in September. The SVR ASG for many is THE enthusiast event of the year, to remove some of the more popular aspects of the event for a quick buck may lose you more in the long run.

And yes, I doubt all night running would occur at a November event.

 

I'm gutted, I really enjoyed the all night thing last year and I've managed to half talk some mates into coming for that reason. Guess we'll still go but it would have been good to do it again. I guess though it's a pretty risky event, keeping the locals happy as well as being on top of any unwanted behaviour.

 

As far as I'm aware, the possible lack of all night running is due to the plans to accommodate FS without overcrowding, rather than issues around unwanted behaviour.

 

You mean put lots of enthusiasts off in order to fill the trains with normals? If that's the case, why not have a separate FS weekend and leave the ASG alone?

 

I don't make the decisions, but it's the quetion we're asking as well...

 

I know you don't and thanks for keeping us updated. The ASG is a bit of an institution and it would be a shame to lose it. Perhaps we could have referendum on it once negotiations are complete?!
