I heard Mr Riley decided to compromise & paint it halfway between BR green & LNER apple green to keep everyone happy... ;)

Looks sensational. Congrats to all involved. Wish I could make it back to the UK to see it in person.

I will second that. She looks and sounds superb. I have always preferred her in this guise.

Some of us are interested in the archaeology of these things!

Besides, however much the "grandfather's axe" principle applies, there is still something magical about feeling that you have a direct tangible connection back to a specific point or event in history that you just don't get if you know everything has been replaced. To take a different NRM example, the replica "Rocket" can give you an impression of how the original moved and sounded, but it is only with the blackened and fragmented remains in the Science Museum that you have a visceral connection right back to the Stephensons.

That 'looks' correct, the coat recently applied however, does not, although I must add beautifully applied....

I've heard that some of the lumps of coal in bottom of the tender are quite old, but 93 years old, not sure about that:D.

Not sure that a digital photo of a printed photo is going to be a 100% accurate representation of the actual colour.

'Fraid not; these are the times for the diesel loco that takes the stock into Kings Cross then runs behind the train both as back-up and to return the train to Kings Cross

As meaningless as a British Railways liveried A3 with a corridor tender, then. As I've said previously considering that the engine is such a bag of bits. It would be better to have scrapped the beast and be done with it, end of problem.

It looks about right to me though. Here's a decent picture of some of the green on Royal Scot from the SVR last year, so fresh out of the shops, and that looked bang on to me:

Don't try and tell me Crewe used a different shade of BR green to Doncaster!

If you're too young to remember BR steam, how can you know that it looks right?

It's a fair point, but equally there's an awful lot of BR green about today, most of which looks to me as being the same colour, so it's a reasonably assumption to make that the one I've seen most is "right" and thus gives me just as much a reason to comment as those that saw the real things. You could argue that my memories of BR green are not sullied with images of miserable dirty engines right at the end which is also not a fair representative of the colour.

At the end of the day though, it's not that far out, and she still looks fantastic. (and hopefully she'll be in LNER green soon anyway...) :)
