These 'stops' often arise when the driver of a preceding train reports the trespass and of course NR has to react even if they don't have any CCT nearby to assess the scale of the problem and the real risk.

We also have to face the fact that one or two drivers will probably report anything within a hundred metres of the track as 'trespass' and to be fair, who can blame them as I guess their daily life includes things we might wish didn't happen.

But the coverage already looks brilliant.

For goodness sake. Please think of the majority who are viewing this thread rather than the minority who may think it's funny. Tasteless.

    Some rules regarding low flying.
"b. Over congested areas. Over any congested area of a city, town, or settlement, or over any open air assembly of persons, an altitude of 1,000 feet above the highest obstacle within a horizontal radius of 2,000 feet of the aircraft.

    c. Over other than congested areas. An altitude of 500 feet above the surface, except over open water or sparsely populated areas. In those cases, the aircraft may not be operated closer than 500 feet to any person, vessel, vehicle, or structure.

    d. Helicopters. Helicopters may be operated at less than the minimums prescribed in paragraph B or C of this section if the operation is conducted without hazard to persons or property on the surface. In addition, each person operating a helicopter shall comply with any routes or altitudes specifically prescribed for helicopters by the Administrator."

Yes, DBS showing how it can and should be done. Genny car thrumming away on the rear for the on train services and the box following a few sections behind. The "diesel on the back is inevitable" brigade should take note.

After that act stupidity no doubt they will then say "That was not the Flying Scotsman that went by it was the wrong color". I doubt they are serious rail enuthsiats as they know the rules of the railway.

No doubt the £450 per head helps pay for the extra pathing of a light diesel loco?

Exceptional price today for a noteworthy special run but on an "ordinary" tour you probably wouldn't need a £450 fare to pay for the extra path. In fact if it wasn't 60103 I doubt there would have been a diesel shadow in the first place.

Gricer Don doing his stuff for Heritage Railway magazine, tells me some more good running, but a little slow over one of the ECML little bumps at Markham!

And from RTT, no surprise what I imagine was a pathing stop was left out, so around 8 late through Retford. I would guess NR would like to see it on time into York to minimise, (if they can), the inevitable disruption FS arriving there will cause. At least they have had plenty of warning to be able to police the area well and safely. Fingers crossed for them and all others there.

Oh bother, meant to make progress summarising my Owl field notes today. Not done much of that yet!

Just a word in passing about what Network Rail seems to be doing today and that is monitoring the progress of the train and slipping it in and out of the other services. Have seen them do this before - i.e. those in Control actually intervening to sort out the path. Chances are that FS will be away from the water stop at Babworth on time if NR has anything to do with it.

Not everyone in NR works against steam and they know that the nation is watching them today so it's an opportunity to CBG - catch them being good!

Watching the live coverage is absolutely fascinating on twitter - how lovely for such a buzz to be generated! I've got nothing done at all this morning watching the videos and live feeds on my computer at work!
