Bure Valley Railway News - Wroxham upgrade work

For those that know the Bure Valley Railway, I thought I'd update you on the work being done at Wroxham station over the winter.

Gone is the old platform 2 that was never used for passengers, and a new usable platform is in its place. We also have a new centre release road. This all means we now have 2 platforms at Wroxham that will be used during peak season and Galas. The turntable has been tidied up and just waiting for some paint.

We also now have a crew room and toilet, and new water tanks.

Why not come and see the work if you are in the area. Still work to be done, but it's getting there!

Thanks to the Friends of the BVR for the funds to be able to do this work, also to the contractors for doing such a good job!

Looks very impressive. What are the BVR's gala plans for this year?

 

Everything Goes 28th-30th May
Steam in miniature 10th-11th September

No visiting locos this year though as we had our fair share last year with our anniversary.

New web site has also gone live, with the option to book online.

I missed the anniversary events unfortunately, if anyone has photos online please let me know...
I should say that a BVR gala is always a great day out: Not only lots of activity and everyone friendly, cheerful and helpful, but you can't beat being able to cycle alongside the entire length of the line, hopping on and off trains with the bike.
Hope I can make the May gala.

 

I hope the future plans for Wroxham include a footbridge, I really miss the one at Ravenglass.

 

No need, the new path will go around the turntable and onto platform 2. It'll give good viewing opportunities all the way around the turntable too!

I try to visit every year if I can, as it is a great little railway with excellent facilities.

Is there going to be a picket fence along the back of the new platform to match the other side ?

 

All fencing is going to be replaced, the old is getting a little tired so both platforms will look much better with it all looking the same.
