I couldn't see a thread for this already so thought I'd start one!

The Somerset & Dorset Railway Heritage Trust at Midsomer Norton are holding running days over the 27/28 Feb and 5/6 March, with motive power in the form of Jinty No 47406 from the Great Central. Had a lovely day there today, all the volunteers were very friendly and informative. Here is my video and a few photos from todays action, also including newly restored resident Sentinel No 7109.

I made a visit to Midsomer Norton today to have my first S&D steam journey for 50 years.

As our LMS Jinty pulled away from the station the recently restored Sentinel 0-4-0 vertical-boilered steam locomotive ran parallel to us on the adjacent track. Wonderful stuff. I may return tomorrow. <BJ>

Also went yesterday what they have achieved so far is quite impressive in a short space of time that sentinel is a strange sounding loco lets hope the weekends are a good revenue earner for them .

I returned to Midsomer Norton today for a second visit as the weather promised to be much brighter.

In the afternoon there were so many people wanting to ride on the train that the timetable was put to one side and the train departed when full. Well done to the organisers.

The visitors appeared happy and excited with their ride on the Somerset and Dorset behind Jinty 47406.

I wonder how busy the railway will be next weekend on the actual 50th anniversary of the closure of the line. <BJ>

I've just decided where I'm going on Sat 5th - Midsomer Norton!

"No more will I go to Blandford Forum and Mortehoe,
On the slow train from Midsomer Norton and Mumby Row...."

Doh! I should know that, shouldn't I? Actually, I don't recall ever seeing the lyrics written down. I learned the song from my Grandad's copy of the LP "At The Drop Of Another Hat" at a very young age. But I digress...

The song was by Flanders and Swann and called "The slow train"

    Also the words for it.
