Yes , why waste a loco in working order as a static display .
I'm sure that there must be some reputable group in South Africa that could give it an active future.
Realistically groups aren't going to take on some wreck 20 years out of service from the tender list if a loco straight out of service is available.
If all the North British group want is a memorial, then surely one of the stored ones could do that .They will need to take all the non ferous metal off anyway when the place it in the park.

Other locos from the same location will be available for SA Groups. The record so far for supposedly preserved locos in South Africa surviving is not that great (with some notable exceptions).
I doubt very much that it will end up in 'the park'.

North British have now posted via the Steam in Action site that the loco will be offered to a preservation group in South Africa prior to its return to UK.
A good idea for cheap safe storage I presume.
Back to the Auction , the auctioneers have finally released their catalogue online.
Disappointingly may lots consist of multiple locos at one site so they are obviously targeting the scrap metal dealers rather than the individual preservationist.

    A second listing of the locos has seen a further 7 sold. A 15AR and a 15F . Plus 2x GMAM , , a 25 NC , a 6B and an 11.
These five are all based at Bloemfonteim which suggests a scrappy may have bought them.
Interestingly the 2 locos probably in best condition, have been ignored in both auctions . the 2 ex Rhodesian Garrats .
A case of parochialism wins over common sense ,I'd imagine
