So in your opinion, the way the heritage rail industry can best make use of unprecedented demand from the public is to severely restrict avenues of access to (and therefore income from) the product creating said demand?

Effectively that's what this particular heritage railway is having to do anyway so it can safely accommodate it. Since we're talking about 1 exceptional case which is basically causing all this discussion (not just from me i might add) I don't see it being relevant generally speaking anyway.

I'm sorry but that is absolute nonsense. In what way is running services behind scotsman for a number of days at an (expected) reasonable price reducing access? Because it is ticketed? Like every other service the railway runs?

You're adapting the situation to fit your own opinion regarding the decisions made by the custodians of the loco (which I agree, is not relevant to this discussion, and yet has been brought up).

So everyone that turns up to travel behind it on the day will be able to will they? The services they normally operate allow free movement on and off the train allowing for using different services.

Previous comment relating to my opinion of said loco removed as it is irrelevant to this discussion.

Anyway, can't be bothered with all this anymore. See ya laters

It's the days they have trouble covering, a lot of people ask specifically for the night turns.

No I do not currently volunteer
NYMR are running FS for 7 days with 3 round trips a day.

All 21 are now sold out, so some good income to be had by SVR.

No you're right, I certainly don't remember the clamour and hype surrounding Scotsman to be as bad in the past as it is now. I can only think that, in their efforts to recoup the vast overhaul costs, the NRM have cranked up their publicity machine to a ridiculously extreme level and charging £450 per ticket for the locos run out of KX a few weeks ago is part of the master plan.

Having read the previous post from the SVR management - yes, looking at it now perhaps cancelling the ASG this year and putting on a Season Finale event in November as a replacement was the only sensible thing the railway could do in view of the crowds, etc. But, as also mentioned in previous posts, it's quite obvious that rather than being forced into this position, the railway painted itself into a corner and has landed itself with a PR disaster. But in fairness, I suppose nobody expected the trespass problems on the ECML to be as bad as they were, which has probably put a different perspective on things.

Planning to come over for this on the Sunday. In order to get both Scotsman and Tornado not tender first, which of the services should I be looking to book?

Both locos will face Kidderminster, so you get tender first outwood with one loco and a smokebox first return with the other.

According to current info both locos are fasing south. They swap at Bridgnorth so whatever tou train you book on one of the locos will be tender first

Out of interest, what would the reaction be if the all night running were resurrected for the November event?

Sounds good, providing the steam heat had been thoroughly tested in every participating coach!

Personally I'm in favour for it on the Saturday/Sunday night, Friday/Saturday is more questionable IMHO. Also the Saturday is Bonfire Night!

I'm in favour if there is sufficient interest from operating staff to run it. I think it has long been considered our USP so if there is a will to maintain its presence from fellow volunteers then I'd be delighted

I personally wouldn't jump at it. The trouble is, IMHO, the ASG in September is the right time to do it, not November. In September the weather conditions are still reasonable and there's enough daylight hours. In November it will in all probability be freezing cold and it'll be dark by 4pm.
This is just my personal opinion - I understand other people may feel differently!
