The exact nature of 34067's ownership apart, I can't see how it is any of WCRC's business what traction knowledge DBS has. Surely that's between DBS, NR and ORR.

Quite agree with that but IF WC were questioning DBS competence to operate 60103 on grounds of unfamiliarity it seems unlikely, for the same reasons, WC or whoever manages it would be inclined to hire 34067 to DBS. To do so would undermine the grounds upon which WC is said to have complained, would it not?

WCRC is possibly just trying to protect its own interests. But for them to be making any comment about other businesses, either directly or indirectly is just plain daft in my opinion.

70000 and Braunton are dual TOC'd anyway -

as an aside frankly i do not know how SD will be able to cobble trains together for a big season program if WCRC are not allowed back -
there are only a few sets of Riviera coach stock which is already booked on many days for Pathfinder, TEx, and UK railtours/A1 so where's the stock coming from?

unlike last years debacle/temp ban where DB could haul trains with WCRC carriages that is not happening now atm at least.

Yes, but DBS have not operated 34067 under its current ownership.

If you say so.....please enlighten me to when this change of ownership occurred,.and does a change of owner make the crews unfamiliar and incompetent to drive a loco.

Mr R sold his share in 34067 around about mid 2007? Has it been used by DBS since then?
Maybe not foe almost a decade, how long before competence is deemed lapsed?
Re 34046, its significantly different than 34067 so specious to suggest because DBS are familiar with the former it would grant automatic acceptance for the latter. As a comparison would 71000 be accepted simply on the basis that 70000 is currently on the books?

Thanks for the picture, Brian. Brings back memories of happier days. I was a few miles down the line at Pluckley:- 34067 Pluckley0001.jpg 34067 Pluckley0001.jpg

Going by YouTube clips, 34067 worked the Torbays and the VSOE in 2008.

Possibly 8 years or thereabouts since DBS had its hands on 34067 then. How long before competence is considered lapsed. How many of the crew then are still active now might be relevant too.

Indeed but they are very familiar with 60163 and being an LNER Pacific there will be close similarities between the two. A bit but not exactly like the Airbus A318/319/320/321 family. As they all have a common cockpit, a type rating on one equals a type rating on all four. You don't have to train on them all the get clearance to fly each variant.

And in the case of Flying Scotsman there is nothing especially odd about the locomotive that would make an experienced steam driver feel uncomfortable about stepping up onto the footplate. By contrast, Tangmere is definitely a locomotive that has to be driven more than once before you can be fairly certain of getting the best out of it. I can think of two WC drivers who are master of the job in that respect and that's not to say the rest cannot start, run and stop it.

I for one would be very surprised if DBS operated Tangmere mostly because of its been a long time and few if any crws will have experience on it, , and as Carnforth have maintained it since, do DBS have any issues with how WCRS maintains engines in its care?
