I suggest you read his website, then decide whether there is a strategy for the unit (viable or otherwise). Personally, I have my doubts based on the information available - I don't regard a poll about livery as evidence of tactics, let alone strategy.

You must be new to this. Livery is the most important aspect of any restoration project. Far more important than annoying little trifles such as funding. :)

  3. Funding, finding somewhere to keep it, the huge amount of skills, materials and wo/manpower to restore it, negotiations with the railway it's based on to ensure it gets used and any agreed fees are paid, agreement with the railway or loco owners to provide some sort of propulsion for it, continued fundraising for materials and the necessary wo/manpower to keep it restored, clean, presentable and in working order, making contingency plans for dealing with any vandalism or unforseen incidents... none of these are in the slightest bit important compared to what colour it should be painted!

I have now taken a look at the website and it is clear from the pictures in the gallery that a lot of work will be needed to do a full restoration job. Disusedbranch listed several areas in his post (#163) which need to be addressed and I believe he is only scratching the surface. I await the strategy/planning overview document with interest. I'm assuming there will be one, because if not, the scheme is dead in the water.

I'd just like to add that whatever has happened in the past is irrelevant to my way of thinking. Let he who is without sin etc. I do think that Mr Reeder and his team need to come up with a good reason why the unit should be preserved, i.e. show that once restored the unit has a viable future, and also show that the scope of restoration work and the costs involved are understood.

The key sentence emboldened - suffice it to say that I do not share your confidence that one will be forthcoming.

He has been asked for similar planning documents for every scheme he has proposed and every time it's either a deafening silence or a 'yes, yes we're definitely going to do that' followed by a deafening silence.

I refer you back to a checklist I gave him for his 2859 project: http://www.national-preservation.co...ll-ever-really-work.32387/page-19#post-467472
Suffice to say that despite the promises not one of these points was ever satisfied.

That checklist looks like an excellent starting point for consideration. Perhaps Mr Reeder will use it as a template for his scheme. It could be that promises were not met previously because he was unable to get sufficient interest/support for the project. Ultimately, it all comes down to credibility. If Mr Reeder can show there is a real strategy behind this scheme (i.e. it is not just a "wouldn't it be nice if...") it might be different this time.

What follows is a serious hypothetical question for Mr Reeder and I would ask people not to post sarcastic responses or personal jibes directed towards him (or me!) in reply.

If someone walked round the corner and offered to donate £24,000 to the scheme but wanted to see a definite plan of action within a specific time limit, what would happen next?

Nothing would happen, because it would mean actually sitting down and doing proper plans and business calculations.

Where is this figure coming from? They have 370 Facebook 'likes' so how can there be a 'post reach' of 9823?

I can imagine, but I'd be more interested in what that actually means in terms of real commitment and hard cash.

Attention Stuart. Attention Stuart. Come-in Stuart. Are you receiving over? When are you going to realise your Facebook muppetry is never ever going to achieve the actual new-build, restoration or reinvigoration of any loco, carriage or wagon? Getting likes on Face-ache book does not retrim a carriage or pay for boiler stays on a Barry wreck. You have a shovel. You keep digging the hole. When the hole becomes too deep you get another shovel and dig another one! Go and help somebody else with their project. there is the 2Hap in York for Southern Electric or the 4COR gang at East Kent. There are wrecks and newbuilds in abundance across the country you can make a physical difference to. It used to be funny watching you make a dick of yourself on here. Now its just rather sad.

Alternatively, you could actually try to provide something worth watching by answering some of the serious questions that you've been asked, instead of ignoring them as if they were designed to catch you out.

So, what do those Facebook stats mean in terms of people committing their time and cash?
