Yes spot on, that's why I didn't post this until it had passed! Also its one of the well known Ashover locos, The seller in the US was only prepared to sell to US collectors only. Which I can understand as we are actually more familiar with the actual locos. I have a feeling somebody is producing very good copies and they end up fooling somebody down the line. There was a plate from the Snailbeach Kerr Stuart 802 a while back which I didn't believe had survived and like this one had some scuffs all over it.

It's rather odd that with the seller's US only selling condition that he/she posted the item on the ebay.co.uk site rather than the US ebay.com site.
    Something not 100% methinks.

I went there last year for the first time, quite a good museum lots to see, friendly knowledgeable staff. I had a look in the loco shed and there was a very nice hopper wagon and they have enough bits to make another, the track is still there in places.

I was at a traction engine rally at Flookborough, Cumbria a few years back and there was somebody there at the autojumble with a WD Baldwin plate - which tied to an Ashover Baldwin, though I can't now remember which one - as well as some other plates and railwayana. I would have loved it, as a Lincs Coast LR volunteer since the late 60's, I've driven my little Simplex many miles with one of the ALR Gloucester carriages swaying around behind my loco, but something told me that it wasn't the real thing - though it looked spot on. When I got home I contacted Rob Gratton who'd written the definitive book on the line, and he confirmed that some had been cast up by somebody at Clay Cross years ago. Whether this was one of those or a more recent replica I don't know. There's nothing wrong with replica plates but you have to be upfront about what it is when you sell it. The chap at Flookborough was all vague about it, which immediately put me on alert!
