    Why should there have been a problem with the reducing weight with a second tender? Surely all tenders change weight during a run, up to 5 tons of coal goes and at various times the water weight will vary by 15+ tons.

    What is the comparative weight of a tender full of water, compared to the weight of a standard tender.

    The tender was said to have suffered from wheel flats, and was largely unused since.

    Also the weight of the fully loaded water tender was likened to a full mk1, so take it, and as well as increasing weight behind the drawbar, you are reducing your passenger capacity.

    That is probably a more relevant reason it is not used.....

    5000 gallons of water is about 21 tons, so maybe another 10 tons using the coal space, 5 tons more than the conventional tender. Perhaps Mr Riley could sort the brakes out, he's got the experience....;)

    That's fine, was quoted in the railway press, then was discarded, have you any idea why it is not used now then???

    The weight used in dragging it around, together with increased times in re-starting a train, due to the extra weight, and the lost coach is probably near the mark.

    As i said there is no problem with the brakes again so stop this , all i am going to say is due to the water space and they no what the problem is so that`s it ,why itis not used FISH7373 81C NFP

    Hang on a minute I'm not accusing anyone of anything, just making some comments and a small reference to Ian Riley sorting out the tender brake problem they had during it's test runs on the ELR. If you are going to get worked up please check you are attacking the right person.

    Well sorry ralphw problem is to much weight at front of the over hang on the front bearings thats the problem if look at it. FISH7373 81C NFP
