Isn't it par for the course in terms of timings, although if RTC have published what seem to be quite precise times they must be fairly confident? Just not uploaded to RTT's sources yet I suspect.

Could it be that all the times so far published are within one NR 'territory', whereas the Scottish bits may need checking out with the lads and lassies north of the Border?

No because we also have the stock movements to and from Craigentinny.

Just looking at RTT, there is a light diesel movement in the early hours of the 19th from Arpley to Carnforth, and after we leave Manchester another movement from Brewery Ln Junc to Arpley, so probably no diesel on the back just a nice load of 11.
Could be an eat you heart out for the steam purists not booked.....

There is also another diesel LE movement from Arpley arriving at Craigentinny at 15.33, just in nice time to collect the stock for the return......

Be interesting to see how this stacks up financially for RTC (we will never know), as these additional light paths will need to be paid for (I suspect WCRC would have just left a tail gunner on all day), although at £100 a ticket I suspect that there is more wriggle room for this on this tour than many others?

Absolutely, I am sure I remember one steam trip last year where the times never did get uploaded to RTT at all. There have been a few where timings have only appeared on RTT 24 hrs or less before travel so nothing particularly unusual here.

I think that RTC would pay any price for this to run. Maybe even stand a loss just to show that they can engage alternative suppliers. They needed a quick win and this is it.

On pricing, wouldn't we all pay a few quid more if we were guaranteed steam only with diesel on light paths as back up?

Well at the moment it's a choice between do what's needed to get agreement with DBS or don't run.

Quite looking forward to it. Was getting a little blasé over the last few years, but now mainline steam's become a rarity, it's got an air of against all odds about it. I've also decided to go ahead with my plan to extend my visit and catch a service train back to York. The only downside is that I'll have to jog across the centre of Manchester at 06:00...

Swimming against the tide with that answer I'm afraid.

This isn't Galatea, I'll have you know.

I'm guessing that, particularly after the last few weeks, many will be over the moon at the prospect of a Duchess taking 12 bogies up Grayrigg, Shap, Beattock, and over Cobbinshaw with no grubby D1500 shoving it up the 'arris.

We really do need an 'unlike' button for this kind of completely irrelevant post. (Personal view of course)

Who needs an "unlike" button, if you don't like something then say so.

Or does that get you banned like TBirdFrank! [IMG]

According to the ticket it's 9 passenger coaches + kitchen and support. 11.

No sense of value. You can go to Edinburgh in Standard Class on an Off Peak Ticket on Saturday for ~£80 return. Souless!

Or you can go on a nostalgic tour in Heritage Coaches pulled by an icon of the steam world for £99 return - ok on this occasion it's a diesel back but the point stands.

Some people know the price of everything and the value of nothing...

But you asked if people would pay more just so there wouldn't be a diesel on the back, and I gave you my answer - no. I would pay £99 for this trip , but once any trip gets into 3 figures I would think twice, and if it's a higher price just to please the anti diesel on the back brigade then you can keep it.

If you ask a question then don't get shirty if you don't get the answer you want!
