Rather more of a new Kerr Stuart Wren exists in West Yorkshire than doesn't and is being added to by the week. Main work left is the boiler I understand.

Although a nice looking loco, the DHR didn't actually find their Garratt very successful, which is why they stuck with the B class.

My choice was influenced more by the former than the latter!
(Although, it was by most accounts more successful under the less challenging conditions of the Teesta Valley line, so I reckon would be fine with a few coaches on the on the WHR!)

I haven't really been following this thread so apologies if these have been mentioned.

The Groudle Glen Railway on the IOM have 'Annie' a 1998-built replica Bagnall 'E' class 0-4-2T and are currently building 'Brown Bear' a replica of the line's original Bagnall 2-4-0T 'Polar Bear' (the original of which survives at Amberley, of course). They also have a 2003-built replica of the other 'Polar Bear', the battery electric version.

Not sure about the Darj Garratt, but a Darj pacific would be very nice!

They do, but I can't see either ever leaving India, or even running again, and it would be nice (Cue groan from PaulHitch!) to see a British-built 2ft Pacific running in this country.

Drifting thread alert. Yes, a British built 2'-0" gauge Pacific running here in the UK would be a dream come true; I wonder if the pair of Gwalior Bagnall Pacifics that are in England will ever see the light of day let alone steam.

    Cheers,

    Alan

If it were bought by an individual it would be their business. Likewise if bought for a useful purpose with a realistic prospect of repair and return to service, then O.K.

However if it were merely brought over by a group of starry eyed gricers following a public appeal, dismantled and strewn around some field, then groan indeed.

That collection (ahem) seems to have been brought over by an individual or small group, and then hidden away somewhere with Lord Lucan, Shergar, etc.
Perhaps they were secretly weighed in at a scrappy ages ago....
Comparing with Statfold does rather show what could be achieved (with a great deal of money!)

Well done to all involved with Samson. A fabulous looking copy produced without drawings. It is a credit to the team.

Looking forward to seeing it later in the year. Is that the first steam powered, as opposed to steam outline, engine to run at North Bay or have there been earlier guest visits?

At the unique gauge (in the UK) of 20", I believe the chances of any visiting locos are impossible!

I could not agree more with you Paul, the thing is this day and age that for a project to work you must be able to dot the I's and cross the T's which mean being so much more realistic in your aims. Just buying a second hand loco is not enough anymore (unless you have access to loads of money anyway) most project's this day and age have a need, and as much as I too would like to see a British built Pacific running in the UK, where could it realistically run, you would also need to make sure that it fits the loading gauge, I would guess that we only have four lines where it could run they are the WHR, the V of R, the Brecon and the L&BR in Devon.

There would be other lines it could go to but would it be effective on them?
