To my knowledge, it's the only time it has visited the Sussex coast - i.e., former LB&SCR lines. It did work over the Swanage Railway in 1994 and worked at least one VSOE special to Southampton in the Marchington years.

Ok thanks - this was way before 1994. I had around about 1970 in mind, but obviously I was wrong.

Here is a quick note to say that the excellent BBC4 Documentary The Return Of Flying Scotsman is being shown again tonight on BBC4 at 8pm.

Thank you for sharing that picture. That's the first picture of her I've seen at Haywards Heath station (I've seen one at Copyhold Junction and approaching Brighton). I believe there's a clip on the Tender Memories film of her passing through the suburbs of Haywards Heath as well as some at Brighton. I wasn't born when she visited and my Dad was only a few months old.

Am I right in thinking this was the only trip after gaining the second tender, under Alan Pegler where the second tender wasn't used?

IIRC her last trip in private ownership was to Southampton.

Sorry I have to admit that CH19 is not actually me, although they are my initials, it is in fact the up through platform starting signal number. As a lad living in Horsted Keynes in the 60's if the family were on the up platform that meant we were off up to London to see relations so when she went to green that was an adventure starting.
Little did I realise that ten or so years later I would actually be pulling lever 52 (IIRC) to clear said route. Although as a box-boy I never touched the frame, honest guv!!

60103 appeared briefly (archive footage) on The Antiques Roadshow this evening as they mentioned they are filming a special episode about Transport related items later this year. They will be filming on a special train hauled by 60103.

Is anything planned for Flying Scotsman's 100th birthday?

That's seven years away so I suspect lots of other planned events for her before then but I doubt the NRM will let her centenary pass by unnoticed.

I suppose that we must all pray for a greeting from the Queen.

In the meantime, until 8th May, she is in the Great Hall, lined up with the Stirling Single, Henry Oakley, D9002 and three coaches of representative periods.

    Come and see!

    What! No Aerolite? Shocking....

Bet the view in the hall is impressive. Would have been nice to see the 91 visiting too.

Hmm - get rid of that overly long number, those elephant's ears, with a bit of lining out & a nice gold LMS on the tender and it could 'almost' be a proper engine.?!!!
