According to the recent Ffestiniog magazine (no 232, page 252) the fully working steam loco 'G. Thommen' will shortly be looking for a new home as the line (Waldenburgerbahn, Switzerland) is being converted to metre gauge.
Should regauge easily for 2'6" lines??

There's also quite a long Youtube video of the loco in action:

Ooohh. She can come and keep her little sister (7 1/4") company here in Italy... How could I explain that to the wife when that turns up in the drive???

Put some flowers in the funnel, tell her it's a planter for the garden.

I think some of the WLLR guys where getting excited about this loco, I have not heard any more about this one or weather she would be of any use to them.

Why are they reguageing the line? And can the modern equipment be reused on the Island Line?

My first thought was hat it looks a bit like one of the WLLR Beyer Peacocks, but I think it is actually quite a bit smaller. It would be interesting to know the relative sizes.

I read that the 750mm electric locos (which do the bulk of the work; steam is for specials only) are life expired. It appears re-gauging is cheaper than trying to get modern 750mm electric stock.

Checking via Google, it seems there's a fairly active loco owners group (with a Facebook page), so it may well be they'd not be keen to have their loco go overseas?

Not that I know of. Plenty of metre gauge lines, a couple of 800mm rack lines, and a 600mm preserved line through a garden centre, but that's about it.

I hold my hand up and say I do not know the railways from that part of the world that well, thanks for the update

A little on the small side I would have thought. There are lines in Finland and Germany of this exact gauge.

As several of the locos which have been tried on the WLLR have discovered, it is not just the right gauge which is the issue, you need a lot of oomph as well, and lots of adhesion. It is a tough line. It is hard enough driving the parallel road, is the car's all loaded up for a holiday...
