As I do not believe that you have been authorised to be witty, this is clearly contentious.

    Great to see.

In all the nonsense on here, it doesn't get said often enough how great it is to see Royal Scot thrashing up and down the WCML. Feels like such a short time since it was pink and in bits…

Wonderful day out. With Mick Kelly on the regulator 46100 absolutely flattened Shap - details to follow when I've sucked the data out of the GPS.

Filmed by Monopodman, this video is a combined video of 46100 and 45699 filmed later in the day. The first clip of 46100 is at Bay Horse and then at Kents Bank and near Silecroft in sun. 45699 is seen l/e near Silecroft and on the tour near Kirkby in Furness in sun.

Footage of 46100 crossing the Leven Viaduct then roaring past Whitbeck yesterday afternoon. Also includes 45699 LE at Saltcoats then accelerating hard past Eskmeals and Bagnall 'Princess' on the Lakeside & Haverthwaite at Newby Bridge.

The purpose of the original Scot Commemorative was to give a fitting swansong to a popular express locomotive. Yesterday's trip proved to be a welcome back to a loco that if yesterday's performance is anything to go by is going to be even more of a celebrity in its retirement!
330 faultless, unassisted, pure steam miles. Beautiful scenery on the Cumbrian Coast in glorious sunshine and a rip roaring performance that saw us at 64mph through Penrith from a standing start in Plumpton 5 miles away. The noise from the chimney (and the hailstorm of cinders on the carriage roof) will remain with me for a long time. I really hope someone posts a video of this!
This was railtouring at its best, a reminder why we put our faith in a lottery system of bookings, altered schedules and dodgy rolling stock (the steam heat failed about 5 miles into the journey, again!).
A massive thanks to all those involved.
If only days like this could be guaranteed!

As an aside, it was mentioned on the tour yesterday that RTC are considering withdrawing the complementary booklet of route notes, loco's history and timings due to cost. I hope that isn't the case, I find am sure like many that the notes are an indispensable guide to where we're going, whether we're late and useful reading when we're in a goods loop! It is also a fitting souvenir of a day out.
More concerning is that RTC feel the need to make cuts like this. Yesterday's trip wasn't fully booked, although the one or 2 empty seats by us were mostly occupied by pay on the days by Preston. A trip like this would have sold out within a couple of months before West Coastgate, rising costs and uncertainty are clearly having an effect.

Got to agree, RTC have to be applauded for giving the more complex itineraries a whirl from time to time, and yesterdays run couldn't have worked out better for them. We most certainly have a new force to be reckoned with on the mainline steam scene in 46100, that run over Shap and through Lancaster!! Many words can describe the decibel levels the Scot was making, but 'explosive' and 'deafening' are the ones I'm going to choose! Many thanks to all involved yesterday, it was spectacular stuff.

Hear hear. The gods smiled on us yesterday. I expect the gps results will be coming soon but 45 miles in 44 minutes from the standing start at Plumpton to Burton and Holme will live in the memory.
