Many thanks to Matt Fielding for organising a day with rebuilt Bulleid West Country Class 4-6-2 no. 34027 Taw Valley at the SVR on 18th April 2016. A set of images from the mainly sunless day are now on-line at my Zenfolio website at: - http://mickrogers.zenfolio.com/p783273944

Back in the day the fireman would have been on the carpet for that but makes a fine picture. Bulleid Pacific on a single line railway and no green coaches why didn't somebody think of using the S&D headcode?

Perhaps because 34027 is not recorded as having worked over the S&D according to this list?

There are plenty of photos from the day of exactly that...s&d headcodes and I've seen a couple of shots on Facebook featuring a Pines headboard too.

The most misused headboard in preservation IMO but most people seem to love it.

The Pines probably ran more times without a headboard than with one.

Indeed. Using Ivo Peters' images as evidence, it was a rare occasion to see the Pines with a headboard although it did see a fair but of use right at the end of through workings over the line.
