Others will no doubt know better, but I think we may have had 48773 (or was it 48431?) which visited very briefly for some reason and barely hauled a train. I can't remember why, though, but I don't think it failed.

48431 visited in 1993 for a gala and was credited with 270 miles. That would be about normal for a gala loco in those days.

2807 looked to be working well on the GWR at Toddington on Saturday when I called in after the snow showers.

Latest issue of Moors Express, mentions 45212 and 6046 coming for the season, and that when Repton returns from overhaul, the livery will be malachite green.

    Extracts:
In addition to 45212 coming for the season it is understood that USA S160, 6046, will be paying a return visit for the full season. With this addition the potential line up of steam locomotives for the main season could be 45428, 44806, 45212, 76079, 63395, 6046, and possibly 61264 .

Livery of Repton - It was agreed by a majority vote that when Repton returns to traffic after completion of its overhaul will be painted its original colour of Malachite Green.

That's a pleasant surprise. 'Southern' or 'British Railways' on the tender? And, if the BR version, what about a comma after the 30 as carried by at least one Schools ('Charterhouse' I think) for a brief period in the late 40s? That wouldn't half cause a lot of heads to be scratched. ;)

Good news too about the decision to overhaul 'Garnet'.

I'm a bit confused here! Repton would originally have appeared in olive green (As worn by 928 Stowe on the Bluebell). The Malachite came in with Bulleid several years later. This is the livery currently worn by 925 Cheltenham at the Mid Hants.

    Nice. 925 + 926 for a malachite double header. :)

I'm told the shed staff hope to have 80136 ready for the peak season. Also, three black 5s for the summer - it's not often that happens!

    Or three Thompson B1s...

*Of course I know only two survive. But the one on the Moors has appeared as other class members! :)

Is 3 operational Black Fives the largest operational gathering of a single locomotive class in preservation? I have a feeling that I have seen a photo of 3 A4s at the Moors too which would be equal.....

There have been five Terriers all in steam together at the Bluebell; also four Bulleid Pacifics (three original and one rebuilt). I'm sure there are other claims to have more than three of a class together as well from other railways / types.

Few years ago now the NYMR put out 44871,45407,45212,45428 and 45231 IIRC

And the SVR had many years ago 6 or 7 standard tanks

There is of course the magnificent spectacle of 6 A4 Pacifics at the NRM and Shildon which happened not so long ago...three of which were operational.

Potentially you could make a case for lots of different classes getting together in supreme numeracy. Terriers, Halls, Bulleid Pacifics, Black Fives, 8Fs, I am sure there are loads of Industrial Hunslet 0-6-0s...

There's news on the Essex Loco Society Facebook page of progress on hat engine's overhaul, which seems to be going well. Another one for 2017, perhaps?
