The Strathspey's 5025 will carry LMS lined black, I believe.

For me it's a very Bulleid sort of colour. It's jarring, and it's bold verging on mad, and it's a long way short of ideal from an operational point of view, but it's appealing all the same.

Just needs one in the 1946 Black now to give a bit more variety.

    In a word - no! :(

Most loco's are raising the echo's up the alps long before they hove in to view, not 925 though.

As for the colour, that's most likely down to the NRM, after all it is their engine - be nice to see her in BR green after her 5 year light overhaul next year. :)

Scotland does pretty well in terms of variation in livery! If you describe the "core" fleet of both the B&KR & Strathspey over the past few & next few years there is something for everyone (and I say this as a very large fan of BR colours!):

Pre-Grouping: 828 (St Rollox Blue), 419 (Perth Blue)
Grouping: 5025 (LMS), 246 (Apple Green)
British Railways: 46512 & 80105 (Both Early Crest lined black).
    Industrial: NCB No'1 Lord Roberts, N0' 7, No' 17 & No' 19.

Helps that both lines have a number of heritage coaches too - Bo'ness with a teak set, caledonian set and LMS Period III set (soon to be outshopped), Strathspey also having a number of the latter too.

Too right. Looks awful enough in BR Green. Malachite really should replace the C with an S. Personally Id melt the bloody thing.

However, got to give credit to the job those running the railway here do. I have no doubt that they will overhaul it and have it looking great. But its really not my thing....

It's a steam loco, what's not to like? OK, we have our favourites but if it boils water and chuffs, that's good enough for me and thankfully 99% of the people who visit the NYMR.

No Cheltenham isn't loud but more to the point it doesn't even chuff. I made the mistake of having a trip behind it at the last MHR gala and we traveled up the climb from Alton with a very muffled continual roaring noise as if the front end needs a sort out. Accompanied by shrieking injectors it wasn't an enjoyable experience but I suppose it goes from A to B and keeps to time.

Repton isn't noisy but it does have distinct beats to its exhaust and a proper rhythm to it, it has has been a super performer for the NYMR.

BTW I do hope we will see your 92 Squadron back at the NYMR, one of most memorable trips I have ever had was with it on load 8 during the wartime gala and in difficult adhesion conditions, we were treated to a driving masterclass by Geoff Morris an ex Leicester MPD driver.

Those who don't like Repton in Malachite, will just have to make sure you only take photos of it like this one.... :D

The only problem with that type of picture is the profile of the tender, not Schools class at all, the livery is easily dealt with if you're that way inclined, it's called photoshop. Personally I can't see anything wrong with Malachite

I'm sure the NYMR loco crew will confirm, but I've heard it said they are in no hurry to cut it down, given the weather conditions that sometimes pertain.

Of course - easy route to both better weather protection and authenticity:

The high sided tender is appropriate to the class though: an similar one accompanied 932 from 1938 to 1958, and 905 thereafter.

Is it just me, or does the sun emblem on the front of the locomotive have a smile on it...?
