I'm strongly tempted by this one, but it would be good to know for sure that this one will run with the 8F on the expected route (subject to any last minute problems) and whether there will be a diesel attached.

Classic traction for the MML, getting us there may present a problem though, don't get me wrong I LOVE this loco, but I will be praying for a dry rail....

Damn. Luckily I'll still be in the north then- but only just. My mate might not be too happy as he's probably booked a hotel in Manchester.

Ah well. Suppose I get more of a lie-in than I'd been expecting that day, then.

If there's nothing to moan about some will moan about the fact there's nothing to moan about. It's not the first time a train has been postponed through unforeseen circumstances and it won't be the last. As for an 8 F to Buxton what's not to like.

I'm guessing, from the weather, that you took that photo today :)

Wish I could have done. It was the best days photting I've ever had 3rd February 1968. Snowed all night, full sunshine all day. Well worth losing a night's sleep for travelling on the overnight train from St Pancras to Manchester getting off at Chinley and worth my pal from Marple digging his car out of the snow.

And of course you'd not be able to take that photo today as I guess you were on the other viaduct which had no rails on it in 1968 but has them today.

If I wasn't alongside you there on that day, I was on the lane to Chapel South filming trains on Chapel bank.

Yes I was on that viaduct, in those less formal days all it took was a quick word with the signalman at Chinley South Junction.
It was a great day, I think the main performers were 48327 and 48442 with 48744 running back the other way. Wrong line working through Dove Holes Tunnel if you remember.

To be fair almost all the steam so far this year has been in the north... There is a lot of hyperbole going on here.

Agreed. The south isn't exactly awash with steam tours at present but hopefully things will improve as the year progresses.

With the WCRC issues allied to what seems to be an awful lot of locos not able to run at the moment, I'm not sure anywhere is doing well.

If 48151 won't be ready for the Buxton trip on 7th May, chances are she won't be fit for the Central Wales trip the following w/e either. Not sure there are any sensible alternative locos available just at the moment, either. For example, Mr Riley's Fives will be at Fort William by then, I think.

I thought the reason for the potsponement was engineering work on part of the route, not anything to do with the loco.

Returning to the subject of the thread, does the postponement mean that 70013 is back as a possibility at the front?

With the date for this creeping ever closer, any words on this one? Considering 48151 will be coming out of service soon has it got an extention to do this run?
