Is it just me or does anyone know if B1 Mayflower shall be running this year? Is she currently being worked on. A status for the locomotive in question would really be helpful given the fact she has been scheduled for a good number of tours. I'm appreciative of any accurate information that could help shed some light on forward coming plans.

    Thanks
    Mike

As far as I am aware (and I am relying only on what has been posted on this forum and articles in the railway press), Mayflower is currently at Carnforth for some repair work to be undertaken. Someone with more knowledge than I might be able to provide an update on how the work is going and the nature of the work being done. First booking at the moment is an SD train to Swanage on Saturday 28th June - 9 weeks today.

Information gleaned from the Railway mags says she is indeed at Carnforth for overhaul/repairs. The owner said the boiler would be coming out for attention after a busy year of ML work and she also suffered a cracked axle box just before she was due to head North so this has to be sorted too.
I believe she is also coming back in a different colour which is to the current owners preference.

Out of interest what would be an authentic colour scheme for 61306?

The one she's carrying is authentic. She carried it when out shopped by NBL until repainted BR lined black c.1950.

Owners prerogative of course but won't it be a shame if the current historically accurate and attractive livery gives way to black?

Interesting question Mike. Until it was "postponed indefinitely", Mayflower was booked for that June 15th excursion Liv St - Harwich & Felixstowe.

I think so- adds a welcome bit of colour, also 61264 carries black so would rather loose it's uniqueness I would have thought. As gets said every time livery is discussed though- all down to the owners wishes!

I agree. The apple green adds a bit of colour to the scene IMO but he who pays the piper, calls the tune so the owner can have any colour he likes.

What a great shame there are no LNER engines working that carry LNER livery.

A situation that is unthinkable for any of the rest of the big four.

The B12 should be back soon though. I'm assuming it will retain LNER 1930's livery.
60163 does carry apple green, even if the 1948 BR version thereof.

I see Britannia has replaced Mayflower for the Peak Forester on 22 May.

What an absolute disgrace if true!

I know it's only a coat of paint but I despair! Two working B1s and neither wearing LNER livery (or BR branded LNER livery).

Why the desire to have every single working steam locomotive in BR liveries?

The splash of colour of Bittern in garter blue on the main line - wonderful! The LMS livery of Leander past - stunning! The GWR of Rood Ashton Hall, evocative!

It's only a coat of paint, I know, but what a ridiculous thing to do. Mayflowers very draw is that livery right now which suits her best. It was also done beautifully.

    A real shame!

You're right of course but what a shame nonetheless. Real missed opportunity.

Could have had A1/B1 and B12 together in matching liveries one day.
