    Drummond 'Bug'.

    Available in two versions:
A} - for the more affluent traveller who wishes to undertake an authentic tour experience of the heritage lines of the UK without leaving their own personal space, this features tinted windows in the saloon, leather sofas, an industrial-sized Gaggia with attendant barista to serve panini and pastries, charging points, wi-fi, and a stress-relieving 'floatation experience' (sunbed goggles, whale-music through the surround-sound and the driver winds it up to around 85 m.p.h.).
B} - for those heritage lines lacking business because we left the EU / stayed in the EU, this could be an ideal way of maintaining the advertised steam service at minimum cost; similar to A}, but without wi-fi or coffee, bench seats and buns instead.

Seriously, though - it was such a pretty little thing... and it wouldn't take up much space. On my driveway:)

Since there are only a few LNWR steam locos preserved, I'd fancy a Cooke 'Claughton' 4-6-0 as a next project:

Yes, I like Claughtons too, although they were not exactly a fantastically successful design. They were a bit patchy and inconsistent as performers and a bit prone to mechanical problems. Although, as with Duke of Gloucester, I am sure that these problems could be sorted out. The LMS had a go but gave up as they fell foul of their standardisation programme.

Some parts were common to the Patriot, the larger boiler later fitted was the same

Q1 tender loco. Impractical I know but I never saw one working and I'd like to rectify that. Yes, I know, it will never happen

There was an earlier thread http://www.national-preservation.com/threads/replica-builds-for-heritage-lines.697621/, which was mainly confined to suggestions for heritage lines but not totally. This one presumably covers both heritage and NR. Should they perhaps be combined, under the title of this one?

Regarding the Claughtons; I'd love to see one in the flesh, but personally I think the original version with the smaller boiler looked better.
I agree that the design weaknesses could be put right in the light of present knowledge, as with DoG and the P2, without significant change to the appearance.

An LNWR DX class would certainly fill a gap probably the first loco mass produced in the UK, and what's more, and more importantly, it could run in either LNWR, L&Y or NSR livery!

LMS livery too, the last withdrawal was 1928.

PS on the Claughton suggestion, Ive thought of a great name for the loco - Mario Balotelli! occasional good performance, but erratic and inconsistent. (football reference!)

Depends on what you call 'mass produced'. Following the Rainhill Trials of 1829 Robert Stephenson & Co produced a further nine 'Rocket' class locos, modified in various aspects and culminating in 'Northumbrian' of 1830. These were followed by 18 'Planets' for the L&MR and quite a few others built for other railways, including some overseas. In 1841 the L&MR began building its own 'Bird' class locos, completing 36 of them before the amalgamation into the LNWR in 1846 moved building to Crewe and closed off this class in the process.

I think the 70 or so 2-2-2 "Jenny Linds" built by E.B.Wilson starting in 1847 for a number of railways (10 for the LBSCR, 24 for the Midland Railway, amongst others), might vie for that prize! The manufacturer even had a kind of Ford-ist "any colour you like so long as it is black" policy, charging a premium for any variation from the standard design. At one point the manufacturer was building them at the rate of one a week.

I don''t think you can really call any steam locomotive as being mass produced in the UK.

For now, I think it would be better if LNWR aficionados lent their support to the George V project, rather than dividing resources between a number of different projects.

Personally, I would quite like to see Fowler's compound pacific. It would have a heritage ethos and also give plenty of opportunities for incorporating modern knowledge, and testing the potential of compounding.

Please please no! If going to the effort of building a class 2 4-4-0, please do a magnificent and shapely Edwardian beauty, and not an adequate but indifferent and rather obsolescent trundler which should never have been built!
(I normally stand up for Fowler, and I am working on a model 2P at the moment - but let's not waste the new build effort)

Well, would an Adams G6 class 0-6-0T be possible?
