WSR Mixed Traction Weekend 10-12 June 2016

Тема в разделе 'Galas and Events', создана пользователем West Somerset Wizard, 30 мар 2016.

One day back in '98 I had RCH Brewery deliver us a cask of East Street Cream and ran an impromptu bar from the old Quantock Belle Mk1 BG that happened to be in the set coupled behind RHF. I think I can confidently state that was the fastest real ale ever served on the Wizzer, before or since. Things calmed down when the MD unexpectedly boarded the train..... Happy days, long ago but remembered with a big smile!

Back to topic: On the Saturday and Sunday of Mixed Traffic Weekend WSRA's Quantock Belle will be offering a full traditional English breakfast service (with toast!) and optional Bury Black Pudding, followed by a luncheon service that will include a brunch option, decent pasties and hot puds, etc. Hopefully I'll locate our genuine Traveller's Fare table cloths in time. This will be the first time for seven or eight years that the full 'works' will be provided during a Wizzer gala. Who cares what the traction is, come along and enjoy the thrash with some decent grub and a decent pint. It's a terrific sideshow.

Anyone seen a MTW timetable yet? As soon as the diagrams are available I'll ask the Wizard to publish full details, menus and prices on wsr.org.uk (where else?) Be nice to have the diagrams in time for Monday evening's WSRA social at the Wyvern Club in Taunton.

now serving breakfast on the train is a superb thing i really hope that pays off for you, but dont forget to let the people know about it, perhaps having the kitchen car by the ticket queue pumping out bacon smells will improve sales no end

    Quite simple really,

Someone who volunteers on the wsr as a tti,was made to approach me at spm last week and basically warn me to shut up about the diesel gala,3 coach trains etc else I wouldn't be welcome on the line,by the time they had shut up for me to say my piece they went to hide in the Hymek,

As I don't know if they was there representing the line there, I haven't made a complaint this time to the line, but it makes you think do they act like this towards other people they don't agree with, even worse whilst they are working?

Here are some thoughts for next years Gala, i realise the costs involved in movement would be considerable be with enough notice the cost's could be shared with another line as the SVR and Swanage have done this year, also im not sure about the availability or how easy the movement itself could be undertaken 47205 is a case in point there, but the locos ive picked are the ones that dont move off there home line very often so would make attractive visitors to another line

08 again i think the idea of asking Laira or Phillips Marsh for one of there's isnt a bad one, one went to the Avon valley and the network didn't grind to a holt so it is doable, failing that how about the Avon valley's 07?
    20031 from the KWVR
24 or 25 as 24081 was there recently and 25173 was based there for a few years i wouldn't bother with them
    26043 from the GWSR
    27056 from the GCR
31203 from the PBR or 31206 from Rushden
33 or 35 again wouldn't bother with them
37 if one is required i would suggest 37116 as when it was pres i dont think it ever worked outside Chinnor
40013 is a popular choice at the minute
    either of the 44's
    45125 from the GCR
46010 from the GCR (N) again as the only ex Laira 46 left the opportunity for a summer of moving around the West Country pres lines would be ideal
47205 from the NLR or 47306 from BWR
    50042 from BWR
and if you are bringing in loco's via the mainline how about 57006 which was a rare loco in green or 47746 from WCRC

Again these are just my thoughts but i think they all have there merits and will bring in the crowds but im not saying have ALL of these as im sure some of them wont be available anyway but these instead of the usual suspects would be a refreshing change

That's quite a comprehensive list! You're quite right - most of them would bring in the crowds, but I suspect that the reasons many of them don't stray far from home is that the owners don't wish them to go elsewhere or they want too much for their hire. Personally, I think the optimum number of visitors for a WSR gala is 3, which means they would be used every day and given a decent mileage so everyone can get at least one complete line run with them.

Some food for thought for the next few years there!

Well to be fair all of the Laira ones are not really rare as they used to shunt the bed portions with passengers still on but it would still make a bit of a spectacle
In regards to 37116 Colas managed to spare a 47 for the Bluebell and if you don't ask etc etc
In regards of road movement costs they managed ok with the steam gala so why not
And the oos don't forget there is 13 months to the next years gala so who knows what will be working then I know I dont

Great to see a full QB service over this event, can't make it which I am gutted about now that they've said this. I hope it is well supported and the same is put on again at the Autumn Steam Gala.

While i agree with you about the early planning stages of this Gala the very fact that they are looking at the 56 and all the back and forth regarding 66757 with the possible addition of another shed with a better number that will bring in the peeps means that at the very least as you said earlier that they are listening to their customers, its well to late to add a pres diesel as there isnt the time to sort that out, so what exactly would you suggest now, today that would actually be achievable?

I thought a lack of sheds was a particular issue on the WSR, so any moves in that direction are to be welcomed - would certainly prolong the service life of carriages between weather-induced repaints and make loco prep more pleasant in the winter...

    Confused of Sarum...

  15. I was hoping the Thumper might get a run out, BL-NF shuttles perhaps?

No doubt it's been considered but ruled out for good reason(s).

It's leaving the WSR today (Wednesday). A Freightliner 66 is coming, arriving approx 1335 at BL, to WN to collect, leaving BL again at about 1610, taking it to St Philips Marsh Bristol for tyre turning then onwards by road to the Lavender Line.
