And what's worse is the stupid ruddy public paid for and own the ruddy thing

At the end of the day, this is all the fault of the NRM. To justify what they have spent they had to garner maximum publicity. And now we are in a position where the national loco can not be seen because the nation have decided its too dangerous for them. What a complete and utter farce.

Be good to get some vids of the tour today. There will be hundreds who are "in the know" and will have timings of one sort or another and so will be "shooting" out and about.

As for this issue of trespass, it is the few who are spoiling things for the many. I know we live in a new age, but I always find it fascinating when looking back at old vids of mainline tours and to see trespass of the highest order, down ramps, on the running lines (mainly when tour is stopped at stations), climbing up signal posts, etc. Great times! And the British Transport Police just didn't seem to worry!

Because the families of those accidentally run over would not have dreamt of suing anybody else...

NR will do this.....NR will do that.......You have an impeccable source of information.

Lets cut out the hyperbole of 'flesh of deceased trespassers and 'body parts on the tracks.' There will be over 30 people killed on the roads and over 400 seriously injured next week and that's if it is a below average week (RAC) At least lets get a sense of proportion. And cannot the BTP take some action and fine the perpetrators the maximum or is that just too difficult.

No it is not the fault of the NRM, it's the selfish members of the public who put themselves in danger because they no longer have the common sense to recognise the folly of what they are doing.

But it doesn't stop you going out and videoing the "ruddy thing" does it.... You appear to want it both ways, slag it off, then publish your video of it. Hypocrisy or what....

I'll take no lessons in Hypocrisy from you. One day you may learn to debate the argument rather than try and cross swords with the poster

Clearly the NRM aren't responsible for individual behaviour but they have stoked the current public hysteria for all things 'Scotsman'. Victims of their own success in this respect. I think they do have some obligation now to support the policing of crowds until the interest subsides to the normal level of indifference. Its much like a small football club having a cup run - they would I believe be expected to contribute at least in part to the identified additional policing costs.

    Moderator Information:

We have been in conversation with Steam Dreams over the upcoming Flying Scotsman trips and it has been decided that we will not publicise timings for these trips until further notice. Any links posted by others will be removed and members are asked not to attempt to get around this request. Whilst we all know that the problem is almost certainly not connected with members of NP, this is a forum that is viewable by the wider public and the media, so anything we can do to help a potentially tricky problem must be in the interest of steam on the main line. (And, with respect, that's not for debate!)

A quote from Steam Dreams is below:
"We have been advised by Network Rail and the British Transport Police not to publish recommended viewing points or the timetable of when the trains being hauled by Flying Scotsman will be passing through specific locations – this includes positioning moves. This is due to the trespassing incidents on 25 February."

With respect, this is a discussion forum, of course it open to debate about a ridiculous standpoint, a closed forum (not this thread obviously) is far safer than Facebook or other social media.

Safer than facebook or other social media has nothing to do with it, we have had the request from Steam Dreams and are going to respect that.
The standpoint can be debated to you hearts content, but as Alan says, links will be removed.

Yet Network Rail publishes this information on its website which is why RTT, which takes its data from NR feeds, is able to display the FULL details of passing times.

Hypocrisy or a case of the Left Hand not knowing what the Right Hand is doing ?

That's their prerogative, anyway at least the important people, the paying passengers, will have all the info.

The 'Timings' post said you 'have been in conversations with' nothing refering to who instigated the conversation. If it was a direct request, that's a bit different. But there is an element of farce which is all to obvious. In fact the whole Secret Scotsman saga is a futile farce.

Both the words 'conversation' and 'request' are true.
