Tornado departed from Waterloo on time at 08:44 with the Belmond Pullman to Bath and Bristol.
I presume that there is a diesel at the rear for the stock movement at Bristol. <BJ>

At last someone has spotted the deliberate mistake. Well done that man. ;)

Can anyone verify if the train today has a diesel at the back please? <BJ>

In the words of Captain Mainwaring - "Ah, I was wondering when you'd spot that, Wilson"! The Royal 67 dropped off at Grosvenor bridge.

The Sunninghill Climb, its all about the soundtrack, so put the cans on and crank up the volume

Do you know the cause of the delay?

No, but seems to be making up time according to RTT.

Tornado caught up part of the delay by Twerton tunnel, west of Bath, where it was 17 mins late.

The train looked very nice. 13 coaches and no diesel at the rear.

Thanks for the reply regarding the diesel. For video a diesel at the back looks c**p,
.....sorry, not very good. :) <BJ>

60163 was allowed out in front of PAD-BRI HST at Bathampton, causing HST arrival at BRI to be delayed by 6 mins. Hope no-one missed any connections...

An audio-visual treat indeed!! As a matter of interest, what is the ruling gradient for the Sunninghill Climb??

Whatever it is, clearly Tornado was "on song" this morning. From inspection of the video and very crude calculations, it looks like Tornado was accelerating from around or just under 20mph passing the station, to around or just over 30mph three-quarters of a mile later when passing under MrK's vantage point on the overbridge. I'd be more than happy to get a more tutored view of this, although I would expect that the clientele for this particular excursion would be most unlikely to include much representation from the train-timing fraternity.

"Sufficient" is a term of wry understatement that has in the past been applied in answer to those enquiring how powerful the engine was in a Rolls Royce motor car. It conveyed all the appropriate connotations of effortless ease and grace of motion. Looking at this video, I can't help but think that Tornado's performance fully justifies the same level of understatement. No drama here, just total mastery of the task in hand. A joy to watch!

No water tanker at Newbury due to the M4 being shut. The driver was delayed. The water hydrant that used to be there has been removed, hence we had to wait for the tanker to arrive. Then, due to congestion, due to Wootton Bassett being shut for a time because of flooding, we were late leaving Bristol on the return. Other than that, all ticketty Boo!

Great stuff today Wayne. Tornado with its trademark 13 coach load and no DL. Hope you liked my column in the edition of Heritage Railway out now. You starred !. Are you going to take the Scarborough trip on 4th June?

Wayne, you were lucky the tanker arrived just a bit late. The Reading area has been in total gridlock traffic wise today since a lorry overturned on M4 at 5ish this morning and its STILL CLOSED ! How does 3 lane motorway traffic filter through Reading ?? 5 hours sat still on the motorway is horrible for those involved but unfortunately the lorry driver lost his life. And with heavy rain all day and flooding all around Reading and Newbury....couldn't be worse. Just wonder what you could have done if the tanker hadn't turned up ???? I assume there are precedents.
