My shot of 34052 Lord Dowding hauling The Footex Express. Seen at Buriton Road Bridge (No Trespassing) and Northam including shots of St Mary's Stadium. Hope you enjoy.

But still lucky, a down service train passed a good 3 seconds later...

The love of my life. Steam, steam, steam and Agyle Arygle Argyle!! Wembley here we come after winning at Home Park 1 - 0 against Portsmouth. How about a steam special from Plymouth to Wembley. Now that would be the most wonderful end to a wonderful day. ARGYLE ARGYLE!

By the way, the connection with the steam special is not just my love for steam, but Palace's Balasi and Puncheon both played for Plymouth Argyle and yes they lost, but Palace and Argyle have a special place in both all our hearts!!

Totally wrong! The 67 was isolated and unable to give assistance unless we brought the train to a stand, the driver would then have to go to the other cab to 'cut in' the loco. It was purely supplying ETH for the kitchen car and air con.
For those that make this mistake regularly a 67 is running on approximately half revs whilst supplying ETH.

Fair enough I'm not going to argue, but it was a bit topsy turvy.

The down run glided through going up hill, the up run just now was working hard..going down hill.

    :)

    Videos to follow.

Either way great day, my 5 year old is sold, she knows Lord Dowding, and tomorrow she wants to look at "Bulleid Pacifics at work".

Thanks for that Wayne, nice to see the clarification.... with a load like that to suggest you were getting assistance is an insult...:)

Have to say that I really enjoyed heading out to see 34052 today. A real joy to see a rebuilt Bulleid light Pacific back on the ML again. I know she wasn't away for long but it's damn good to have her back. At least we now have two ML Steam Loco's based in the South for Railtours.
You have to hand it to Jeremy Hosking and Icons of Steam/LSL as they come up with some great ideas for Special occasions. I wonder what else they have up their sleeves?

I was well impressed by the way you came up passed the bridge at Bruiton after the 5mph at Petersfield at the bottom of the bank and definitely no diesel assistance or anywhere else I saw it for that matter. Just got home so I'll put up some pictures tomorrow.

    Disgraceful post from a moderator.
    What a sham.

I accepted I was wrong. Indeed where I have been wrong I have accepted it multiple times.
I have in multiple places rolled it in if it was deemed to be unfair or going beyond the mark (I took the hint in the scotsman thread and gave it a rest, I did the same in the picture puzzle.. I believe I am reasonable, I do believe in my beliefs and belived the forum was supposed to accept all points of view, for and against... but this. again. and again.. from staff of all people...

But to have it highlighted, nose rubbed in it... OMG thank god I don't let my child near this forum, indeed any newcomer in the hobby would chuck it in and walk away.
This isn't the first, nor the 2,3,or 4th time Ralph has made personal comments against me and I know I am not the only one to get the hairdryer from him.

I spent yesterday wandering round the area highlighting a few spots, and hope photographers and public got pleasure from it. but to be chided by a moderator.. AFTER accepting I was wrong... well screw it why bother.

I dont believe Ive got personal here before, but at this I make an exception...YOU MISERABLE <EXPLETIVE>. RALPH.

I presume this is our grapes because I disagree with you in the Euro vote thread. Shame on you sir ! - you should resign but your old age ego wont let you. Staff aren't supposed to get personal.

Moving swiftly on to what is supposed to be a pleasureable hobby away from sniping by the staff...

Had a great day today, my wifes come along and my daughter joined the hobby, going to sleep watching these videos.... if only the miserable staff of this place weren't such a bullying type to ruin the end of it.

Heres what I saw, shame about about the days ending taking the shine off it, Wayne my apologies to you sir and all the best..

It was actually 15 mph through Petersfield, but she comfortably got up into the low 40's before I eased her back keeping her there until Buriton tunnel, which is 40. It was nice to be working steam over the Pompey direct again, not often it happens. Hard route to work over, but it makes life easier when you know the route inside out. Can get the best out of the loco.

Agreed. As per my earlier post, 34052 was working as she passed me at the Wallington end of Carshalton Beeches platform but eased/shut off before reaching 99Z at the opposite end of the station. That is possibly why 99Z thought the diesel was doing the work as the train passed him but as we know now, courtesy of Wayne, no diesel assistance was being received.

Many thanks, Wayne, for the information about this trip. It's unusual to have so much 'up front' so to speak to help those who wanted to go out and see or capture the event. Even when we have been lucky enough to have first hand details of the clearance restrictions and also what the diesel will and will not be doing, it's still easy to miss it all and make the wrong assumption, as unfortunately 99Z did.

But I have to say that it does illustrate that the role of the diesel is not always easy for the bystander to work out and hopefully DBC will continue to find a way of updating everyone on such details into the future.

some members of this forum take the enthusiasm out of enthusiasts.

I could become a volunteer, I could have interested family members to join me.
Instead after staying away from it for a year, and The first time in a year I go into the hobby for a day out..
I come home to be chided by the mods for not being technical enough.

I'm not too old to learn, but I'm not too old to go somewhere else.
    This place is so frustrating.
Why bother to contribute, when everyone is waiting to happily shoot you down in the most nasty ways possible.

My footage shown at Clapham Jc and Ashtead (well almost..!), credit to Wayne, Paul, the other footplate crews and Icons of Steam for such a great performance from the loco!

I agree with others, uncalled for and unnecessary.
