To quote 'Monty Python' "My hovercraft is full of eels" !

But seriously, the locos were exported in 1965 and went through several owners in Alabama and Georgia before going to Puerto Rica by 1989. Apparently they were destined for a working museum of the sugar cane industry which never got beyond the planning stage. As the photo shows they seem to be deteriorating rapidly - time for a rescue bid anyone? Ray.

Nesta was the sister to Elin, but unlike Elin she is in original condition.

I am sure efforts have been made to repatriate her and Cegin, there are some very determined people out there with deep pockets. I believe these are the last two Welsh 2 foot gauge engines whose whereabouts are known, there is of course one more in S America we are still looking for...

    Regards

    Peter

Interesting to see that the links on that website refer back to this forum.

There is one other Quarry Hunslet still in the Americas - Gertrude (ex-Penrhyn). Now a sectioned exhibit at the Ontario Science Centre, Toronto.

Although I received my copy of the Railway Magazine a few days ago, the article stated that that 'Cegin' was (past tense!) unveiled at Statfold on the 4th June. I assumed that this was a misprint for 4th May - it's only the 2nd June today. However, looking a the Statfold website, I see that there is an open day on Saturday which will be the 4th June!

Perhaps the article was supposed to be in the July edition and got published this month by mistake?

It is splendid news regardless of when it is officially announced.

I gave someone from penrhyn a footplate ride at the WHHR back in October and they said the locos were coming back but they did not know to where. Guess this answer the question.
