Only just picked this up from the ELR's chairman's blog earlier this month, his announcement that a deal has been done to build a 5 coach platform with a L&Y style shelter at Burrs.

Bury Council & the Caravan Club have both made 'significant' financial contributions to the project which will start in June (!!!) with an anticipated 8 week deadline for completion.

It doesn't stipulate exactly where the platform will be built but I would guess it will be on the East side of the line opposite the caravan park with access via the recently diverted public footpath.

For the photographers out there it will I presume kill off the early morning run past charters & the afternoon silhouette shot from the east side plus the flying run pasts of the service trains, but it will create an opportunity for different smoke effect shots through stop/start shots I guess.

On the plus side it will give the less able firemen a welcome respite while the pressure and water recover during the station stop!

A tad harsh, would have been welcome in the days MSC32 handled most services or the big RSH number 1 though.

If the Summerseat and Irwell Vale stops are anything to go by, then the respite at Burrs will be short and sweet!

The platform build is delayed for a couple of weeks or so now.

It will be constructed on the same side as the Caravan Park at the southern end where there is an area of land about the size of a football pitch belonging to the Caravan Club and which will also be levelled and prepared for extra caravan pitches.

So if its on the caravan site (west) side of the line how are the public going to access it if the caravan club also own the land on the west side, hence the removed foot crossing & diverted footpath?

The recently diverted footpath will pass close to the south end of the new platform with access to the station which will be on land currently owned by the Cravan Club who are paying for most of the construction, probably in exchange for expanding the site.
The platform will be long enough for a five carriage train which will be sufficient for most of the services currently running. A shelter in the L&Y style will be included.

A quick pop over to Burrs to see City of Wells this afternoon, catching the location while I can.

Caravan Club have contributed significantly, but Bury MBC are the main contributor.
Understand that construction commencing this month, even as soon as next week.
