Ok, you have really confused me with talk of 4-cylinder LBSC Holcroft locos! I was imagining some bizarre stndard gauge product of Brighton and Ashford.

LBSC in that context is the nom-de-plume for Lillian "Curly" Lawrence, a former LBSCR loco cleaner at New Cross before World War 1, who went on to greater renown as a designer of live steam model locomotives.

In fact his 3 1/2" 'Maisie' design of GNR Atlantic has been made by some builders into the LBSCR equivalent.

(That should get us firmly back on topic for all of a few hours :) )

Fred Bailey often refers to this project as a twelve inches to the foot Maisie

Atlantic House will be having an open weekend both days this weekend, Saturday and Sunday 11/12 June from 10am to 4.30pm each day - see http://www.bluebell-railway.co.uk/bluebell/locos/atlantic/latest.html for further details, including an auction in aid of project funds.

In addition, on Saturday there will be a goods train running behind C class 592. Service trains hauled by 263 and 73082, and Baxter the station Pilot, so lots of activity!

For those who missed the Atlantic opening weekend, fear not: Atlantic House will be open this weekend as well (25 / 26 June) for the Model Railway weekend. Come along and see progress (and hopefully ship in to the kitty ;)

Enhanced timetable: normal Service 2, but with an extra shuttle service between SP and HK throughout the day, which will also be the public debut of LCDR 5 compartment 3rd No. 3188. Service locos should be 847 (A); 73082 (B) and 323 / Baxter top-n-tailing the shuttle service.

Looking great! I'm going to the Bluebell in Sept and hoping to organise a visit to see her in the flesh. This has to be my personal favourite of the newbuilds to see steaming (minus one obviously)

The wife and myself visited Saturday whilst having my birthday 4 day weekend in London, wonderful day out, great to be able to wonder around the sheds without restriction, goes back to original preservation times (no grand 'elf!). See some of my pix over on the Photography section, dodging between the thunderous down pours. Had a ride in 3188, nice and bumpy!

I never knew how much work it took to make a cab roof! I just thought it would be a piece of sheet steel, I suppose it's the old adage of 'if a jobs worth doing, it's worth doing right'

I don't think anything is easy on these engines! Take a look at the lengths gone to to produce the cab beading - scroll down to October 2015: http://www.bluebell-railway.co.uk/bluebell/locos/atlantic/latest_15.html

The build quality is superb - I'd encourage anyone to pop into Atlantic House during open days to see some of the fine detail first hand. A testimony to the skill and ingenuity of the team building it.

The cab roof........er, why? I have been told that Brighton-designed and built locos were very well built indeed, but, I thought the cab roof would be less, well, rivetty! This is going to be a really superb loco though if these photos are anything to go by. (Must really try and see it sometime.)

A fantastic piece of work. I remember helping out on the cab roof on 45337, which seemed a bit simpler than that one
