Well, just over a week to go and still no definitive news on what will be hauling any part of this Anniversary trip.
RTC website is still showing 34046 for the outward leg. Could it still be a possibility if nothing else is available?
    UKSteam site still lists 34067/35018.
In the Cotswold Venturer thread it is mentioned that either 46115 or one of the Jubilees will be moving South on Friday 1st July. Can we hope that one of these loco's also takes on the Weymouth trip as well? 46115 has done the trip before and what a day that was in 2010. I wouldn't mind a Black Jubilee though!

I haven't heard any reasons why 34046/52 has been altered on UKS, but we have a few days to go, yet.

I'd definitely settle for a Bulleid and a Scot. I was behind 46115 the last time it went down, and it didn't disappoint.

If 45690 is on it, I'd rather it does the outward journey, and I'd expect some shoving up Parkstone.

Another piece of speculation is that there could be two steamers heading down in convoy this Friday. Time will tell.

Tour not listed on Icons of Steam website? Also look at the Trustees of the RSL&GTL.

Commemorating the End of Southern Steam with ex-LMS motive power is a bit too ironic for my comfort!

Icons of Steam wasn't exactly that clear about the Peak Forester, either. We'll know the score soon enough when someone notes what will head down on Friday.

LMS locos worked the route from time to time so not too inappropriate.

Only ever a Black 5 as I recall. Never a Jube or Scot. Most will have arrived at Weymouth via the Western Region at Castle Cary/Yeovil Pen Mill. In the last days of steam on the SR, Black 5's would sometimes, albeit rare, arrive on passenger and goods trains via Banbury, Oxford and Basingstoke as far as Eastleigh. One famous filling in turn meant a Black 5 ran a Bournemouth to Waterloo and return duty on a Sunday prior to return to the MR.

Bourenmouth used to "borrow" locos from cross-country trains, and also locos arriving from the S&DJR. I'm sure all sort of classes were used on things like football specials, etc. Then as now though, gauge-clearance was an issue on the Southern. Today, a train using any 2 steam locos is something special and not to be missed. Let's hope RTC and WCRC are able to put something together.

Looking increasingly likely that 45699 will haul at least one of the legs if this weekend's Cotswold ramble is anything to go by.

They were also used to replace Bulleid Pacifics when they were withdrawn in the 1953 following some cases of axle failure. Nine Elms had 45051,45061,45130,45216,45222,45223 and 45350 along with some V2s and Standard 5s. Stewarts Lane got B1s and there were a few Britannias at Salisbury and Exmouth Junc.

I hope she does okay on Saturdays trip to Worcester. If she behaves they might let her go solo on the 9th if she is rostered for that trip too. Unless something else ventures South tomorrow from Carnforth.......
The Black Jubilee seems to be the more reliable of the two based at Carnforth.

Never seen a picture of a Jubilee on the LSWR lines, but they did work through to Brighton on a couple of occasions. Mind you, didn't 45699 end up at Eastleigh somehow?

Both 45690 and 45699 went to Eastleigh for overhaul, iirc, but ended up at Barry after the overhauls were cancelled?

Any updates on the likely locos for this?

I note that the RTC web site page on the trip still talks of a diesel loco, just after it mentions steam at the front and rear!

If it is going to be all steam with two locomotives so there is no diesel on the front for the leg back to Southampton then either it will have to be top and tailed all day by steam, be double headed with one of the pair having to be turned at Yeovil or single hauled to Weymouth with the second engine having to come from Yeovil/Bristol separately.

Also some juggling around with the lay-over 125. Perhaps use of the rump Quay Branch again.

    Now edited - typo corrected.

Probably too early but nothing showing yet on RTT other than the usual SW/GW moves for Weymouth on Saturday nor for a Loco/POB running through at Maiden Newton.

Taking the Weymouth Seaside Express (2010) as an example, there was a 4 hour 10 min layover at Weymouth while the loco was turned at Yeovil. If it is single-headed, it might require a juggling-around of times to accommodate this. It may be that we will still see 34046/52 on it. However, time will tell.
