the way things are at the moment, anything with a fire in it would be good.

I hear on the grapevine that 45699 is likely to head south tomorrow, though treat this with all the usual caution... I wonder what the load will be? Sapperton is the limiting factor: fairly steep and twisty, though wooded cuttings and it's likely to be a wet day. Seems to me that rear-end assistance is likely.

Excellent, we need something brightly coloured to cheer us up down here in this miserable weather. There is a LE path to Southall WCR booked in the system after its departure, but I guess part of the planning should be to decide of that is used or not. Jubilee with 11 up sapperton in the wet? Roll the dice man thats Vegas territory.

Looking at the timings on steam.info, the return route is via Standish and the Golden Valley line up to Swindon. But on RT, the route appears to be via the Cotswold line back to Oxford. Can anyone clarify?

Yes, I see what you mean: http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/U54588/2016/07/02/advanced. Interesting. On the one hand it means no Jubilee roar on Sapperton, but on the other it means a route that a Jubilee might handle unassisted...

EDIT: ... it might be a gauging issue. Either there's an actual problem for a Jub via Stroud, or else NR have only had time to gauge one route, not both ... maybe?

So it's not looking good for Sapperton then or could things change again.
My local line isn't very busy this year for steam.

Why are so many people afraid of Sapperton I have a lovely recording of 44932 romping up the bank with 11 on if I remember on a Cathedrals Express 12 August 2010.

    Cheers Dave

I think it depends very much on the loco. and the loads they are given to haul. 73096 used to go up there without fuss with some heavy loads on the draw-bar.
I have been up there with 73096, 60009 and 5029. 73096 did it with no trouble on the final Daylight Rail tour in 2004. 5029 slogged up there with a Past Time Rail tour returning from Worcester although I think she was overloaded on that occasion.
60009 absolutely flew up there but I think she only had 9 carriages on a Daylight Railtour.
I am sure I have been up there with other loco's as well but I am currently having brain fade at the moment.
