    Ahem!

Income tax was, I believe, a temporary measure introduced to fund the Napoleonic War.

If Mr Gove wants a really radical platform.....:)

Despite the xenophobic nature of some members of this forum, I don't think there is much appetite for another war against France.

    Curses, beat me to it..........................

But surely the lesson of the last century, two massive wars fought against Germany with The French as our Allies taught us a very clear lesson. You always knew exactly where you stood with The Germans, unlike the French.............

Dartmoor Prison was built to house French POW's during the Napoleonic War. The problem would be that I understand there is little spare space there now.

The lime pits used to dispose of the bodies after Judge Jeffries had dealt with the despatch of many of an earlier generation of Britain's enemies still exist in Plymouth Naval Dockyard.....

I understand that after the de facto abolition of The Death Penalty, when the Gallows at Wandsworth were removed in 1992, an alternative provision was avalible in one of HM Dockyards until De Jure abolition in 1998

Those people are a French problem, they are nothing to do with us, in or out of the EU.

The currency is bound to be unstable for a while, where exchange rates end up, longer term, know one knows.

I have no reason to believe that Brussels does anything other than make decisions on merit based on the quality of bids and rationale for bidding.

I'm touched by your faith in the integrity of the EU!

The cost of land/property in the UK is, I suspect, gradually destroying a wide range of businesses. We seem to ending up with towns where shops are gone, pubs are gone etc etc.

One of the biggest drivers of property prices is immigration. Out of the Eu perhaps that will finally be addressed?

They are because they want to be here, NOT FRANCE So out of the EU its very easy for France to make it our problem. Ok so its not a part of the EU agreements, but it can be torn up.

There are numerous examples of countries at 'loggerheads' with each other but which come to workable, practical border arrangements - such was true in Berlin, for example, of which I had practical experience.

Politicians (and commentators) may bluster, but I wager the folk on the ground will sort things out...

    Utter nonsense.

Shops are empty because of something called the Internet.

Pubs are failing due to a number of factors immigration is not one of them.

House prices are high for a number of reasons but immigration is not the main cause.

and most of the leaders of Brexit do not want to end immigration despite what some of their supporters might wish.

They are British Problems indeed. You'll not find supermarkets delivering food in most of continental europe, nor have they developed the "order on line and send it back" mentality to clothes shopping that we have her win the UK. House prices are expensive here because we all want to live in the same places so land is expensive. They never had pubs, and their bars are always indoors/outdoors, so smoking is not an issue (In Spain they ignore the rule anyway). However, given that shops in Europe do shut in an economic downturn, and there are loads of empty outlets when that happens.

I suspect I spend more time in Spain than most here, and I have not seen anyone smoking indoors since the ban came in. From metropolitan Barcelona to the middle of nowhere.
