'Scots Guardsman' to Weymouth. 19/07/2016

Haven't been out today, appointments made prior to knowing the trip was running. Feeling very sorry for the footplate crew in this heat working any steam line.

 

Work? Oh yes, I remember doing that. Retirement's much better; the only snag is you have to get old first!

I think there have been problems generally - just looked on RTT a previous arrival at Weymouth was around an hour late in from London and the Gloucester departure has gone out 40 odd late and that starts from Weymouth!

 

South West Trains have messages on their website saying that there are signalling problems at Basingstoke, and between Hamworthy and Branksome. There are therefore no end of train cancelations, delays and timetable alterations. The disruption between Bournemouth and Weymouth is expected to last until eight o'clock tomorrow morning!

 

I swapped my anorak for a tee shirt - and a floppy hat!

 

Not a very inspiring day for photography, no visible exhaust and light far to harsh

 

I did consider going to see 46115 given its rarity value down here (It is due to go back o Carnforth tomorrow, so I believe), but decided against a 160-mile round trip precisely because of the scenario you described above.

No No No. I could have retired 3 years ago, but working keeps the mind active and every day offers new challenges. I couldn't cope having nothing to do only pottering around the garden. I think I would go made. That said.............

 

The 12:35 London Waterloo to Weymouth service terminated at Poole 93 mins late. Not a good day for rail travel.

If there are empty seats on the steam charter between Weymouth and Bournemouth I wonder if the organisers will be asked to help some of the South West Trains passengers reach home?

Nothing to do all day? The days aren't long enough for me - and I haven't touched the garden for weeks! But thanks for the good wishes. Apart from the getting old first bit, I'd recommend retirement to anybody. And all my retired friends say the same!

 

Agreed - the pay may not be so good but the job spec is very much better.

 

Couldn't agree more, as my occupation details show its the best job I've ever had and the holiday entitlement is really good. Anyone with our interest should be able to fill 50 hours a day let alone 24.
I do realise, however I'm privileged to be in the last generation to benefit from a defined benefit pension scheme

 

Age is a frame of mind. I'll always be the naughty kid at the back of the classroom... And enjoying the steam I recall from my youth.

Diesel exhaust suggests that 46115 wasn't doing all the work !

 

Prob needs a water stop himself in this weather.

Well you've tinkered very well. These trains are always taken into the light on sunny days which is why I managed to get my shots this morning from the sunny side - just.
