Now shown on both UK steam and RTC as 46233 via Shap both ways. Will this operate without a DL?

As usual the big question... do we book or not? The timings are good for service trains to and from, but I think I'll hold back and see how it runs and book the next one.

DoS usually manages without a diesel, will check with my contact, but since today's heavy showers have not materialised who knows.

Let's hope that the Duchess puts in a proper Duchess performance and the driver and fireman are not restrained by the invisible hand of the locomotive's custodians (as is rumoured and often seems to be the case). 46100 put some markers down earlier in the year; so let's see what the big girl can do.

Sounds like it's got to be done. Can't find any shunting moves for diesels but they don't always get posted for Crewe. Probably opt for paying on the day as there are seats showing in all classes at moment.

    I have booked

I have taken a chance and booked in the hope that there will be no DL and that the class 8 won't be constrained. Its going to be another 20 hour day!

Only slight concern is WCRC will probably top and tail the train to Liverpool and they don't always remove what becomes the 'tail gunner' (Recent Dartmouth Express, a fine example of a ruined train). We're going with a Plan B - nip up to the East Lancs if the box doesn't come off.

Train goes to Lime Street via Warrington & St Helens Junc, diesel only, then back to Crewe via Runcorn when 6233 comes on. On the return steam comes off at Crewe and diesel goes back to St Helens just for last drop off, via Runcorn and Lime Street.

I understand the sentiment but remember 46100 has a very wealthy backer - not sure the 46233 has quite the same financial parachute if something gets broken and this will be its first proper mainline run since pretty extensive repairs.

Yes quite agree. With only 10 on it need not be extended to produce a good performance without being worked hard. Just hope its trusted to go without a DL

DBC seem to have a policy of shadowing pure steam "just in case." Why not WCRC or will RTC not pay the extra?
