AIUI The Sunday BL - WN - BL turn is DMU
Also the late train back from MD on Saturday night is also the DMU.
I unfortunately dont know which other paths are the DMU, the info regarding these two turns was posted on the WSR facebook page a little while ago.
Also the planned loco's according to the DEPG website is D7017 and D1010.

When l was in the box at Haywards Heath in the 70's the nice signalmen either side of us simply described whatever they were sending us ;)

I'm travelling down to Minehead on Saturday and staying for a week to visit the WSR.

Would anyone be able to know which way each rostered locomotive is facing please?

  5. Awaiting the loco roster at time of posting this reply. Hopefully not too long now. That won't tell us which way each loco is facing though. Best to watch the webcams or go have a look. I hope you have a great week in West Somerset and make good use of the WSR.

I don't know your plans for the week but don't forget if you are planning on using the WSR on more than one day, The Freedom Of The Line ticket is great value at £25 (Adult) for 7 days travel.
If you are around on Tuesday 16th, give me a wave, I am the rostered DMU driver.

As well as the difficulty in sourcing the volunteers to man the services, there is also the Railways neighbors to take into account as well,im sure the railway does not want to upset them let alone the traffic using the road crossings who will definatley NOT be expecting anything in the early hours. However i still think there is scope for some later running trains on the Fri/Sat of the gala but the right locos will have to be rostered to be of an attraction to the visitors

This is indeed splendid news Robin, i just hope the railways gives you and the team the budget to bring in some tasty visitors, just remember that the railway has easily the rarest working 52 in the land so there is no need at all to bring in 1015 AGAIN!!! ;)
A nice mix of type 2's and mybee a EE type 4 will be just the ticket, im sure will will have no end of suggested digits to trawl through, i just wish you and yours the very best in your organising so the railway will at long last start to cater for a slice of the diesel pie

Didn't see that on the railway's website. Thanks very much :)

I'm there from the 13th August to the following Friday (19th). Still working on photo locations but will be planning all this before Saturday.

Road users *should* be approaching any crossing as if the lights may start at any time, whatever the time of day, whether they are expecting trains or not.

A golden rule on any railway is "always expect a train".

Southern passengers always expect a train, but they don't always get one! :-(

I visited New Zealand in 1995. After a number of bad accidents, bus & coach drivers were required to stop at level crossings and check that the line was clear before crossing

  19. It's not long been available. There was a news item on www.wsr.org.uk about a month ago.

The new 'Freedom of the Line' ticket is a bargain

In a new initiative to encourage folks to make more use of the Minehead Branch, the West Somerset Railway have introduced a new ticket covering up to seven days. The ticket is called "Freedom of the Line"

This new ticket aims to encourage holidaymakers to use the trains for more than one day. The ticket is valid for unlimited travel for up to seven days and sold in three classes only - adult, young person or family.

It is very attractively priced at £25 per adult, £12.50 per young person and £60 per family.

The ticket is not valid during Special Events and cannot be used with any other discount, voucher or pass. No further reductions
