Tinder dry conditions in the south of the country at present. Another scorching hot day forecast today.
A little cooler tomorrow but still no rain. The prevention of lineside fires will be a priority.<BJ>

Actually the forecast is for Wednesday to be a tad warmer than today. Is there a suggestion that diesel may substitute? At least the cool nights are producing plenty of dew.

I'm sure 80-90% of the train are using it for a day out at a few hours in Weymouth during the second day of the Weymouth carnival,Just a shame they won't be there for the Red Arrows,
The enthusiast contingent will be miffed if there's a Diesel up front ,
But the day trippers won't mind as long as they get to Weymouth and back.

Typically the rain forecasted as due for today will follow the train back to London but about 2.5 hours behind it.

Still toying whether to go with it even knowing a diesel is on the rear (as I need the loco for haulage) but will walk away if comes in with diesel on the front. Anyone got an update?

The headlamp is above the left buffer but looks as though the battery has run out, it may have been fine at Woking or even Basingstoke.

If that is spotted, the train will be stopped.

I think that Galatea has made quite a few new friends in the south of England recently! She looked and sounded good yesterday. I note that today's engine & coach move to Carnforth has been cancelled. Perhaps she'll be rostered for next week's DCE too?

After a long time, WCRC seems to have sorted Galatea out and that's to everyone's credit because the people who drive her had been saying that there were some teething problems to deal with. And anyone who has been involved with young children will know that teething is a long drawn out business!

It would just be good to see her on her own down south at some point and I don't mean with her support coach.

As a signalman, I often had to stop a train in the dark because the tail lamp was out so I had to consider the train had divided. In never did and was always the lamp had blown out.

Not sure what the rules are for new style headlamps. As someone else has suggested, the train should have been stopped had someone reported it.

I spoke to the driver on arrival at Waterloo last night and he told me that he will be staying down south for next week's DCE.

I've seen that happen with the bardic before a few years ago (not saying where/when to avoid getting anyone into flack), what was concerning was the loco was about 500 yards out of the depot at the time! so wasn't like the battery had much time to wither.
