Unfortunately NWCE seems to be in trouble today. 106 late at Chester.... No reports anywhere though.

Yep, was 75 mins late at Moore /Runcorn and approaching me near Daresbury Labs was making a clanking racket going at slow speed and no exhaust, just drifting smoke. It did start to steam and tried to pick up the train for a few hundred yards and then stopped again on the embankment well before Runcorn East station. Didn't look and sound too happy but seeing the times now the train had made up a lot of lost time although with what traction I don't know. It did stick around at Earlestown for just over an hour previously. Shame really.

No steamer on it when we saw it at Gaerwen. Just a class 47 on the front 76 minutes late

Read elsewhere it ran low on water at Winwick and remained there until refilled by the Fire Brigade!
Steam apparently came off at Chester with the remainder of the trip to be worked by a diesel.......

Looking at RTT it looks as though they've sent a diesel to pick up SG from Chester. Dep at 2049 scheduled back to Carnforth at midnight.

The message I got was the train stopped first for water at Vulcan village seriously delaying a few following services, and then at Chester the Scot was taken off with problems delivering water from tender to loco ( secondhand info so don't shoot the messenger).

By the law of Sod, when the much delayed NWCE eventually turned up at Abergele it was definitely a case of adding insult to injury as the sun shone. By an odd coincidence it may likely have been in sun had it turned up on time too !

This shot with the Abergele signals has been on my bucket list for some time so I hope I can do it with steam soon.

The comments posted on YouTube suggest there was a bad water leak on the Scot and she almost ran out of water at Winwick. There is a video on YouTube showing the Fire Brigade filling the tender after they were called to the scene. When the tender was full the charter departed but the Class 47 was doing all the work at the rear and 46115 was silent. Another video shows 46115 simmering at Chester after being removed from the train. What a shame for all concerned after her magnificent day out yesterday

That's more like it - does anyone know the real reasons for the trouble on the 21st? Kinda puts you off railtours if the reason isn't known...

Why should WCR have to tell the world what went wrong on Sunday, the loco had a problem. Will it be fixed for it's next scheduled outing, yes, as a matter of fact I believe it has already been sorted. Do people really need to know any more?

I like to know the cause of failures. It's interesting to find out whether or not the issue was a common one in service days or something that's a consequence of engines not being in daily use. Most groups are open about the causes but it's obviously the owner's choice.
