At 17:53 Lizzy was safely tucked up for the night at Southall. <BJ>

I've noticed on RTT that a freight train may hamper the progress of Lizzy to the west of Bedwyn. The folk at Crofton may be interested in this.

11:36 (at Bedwyn) Wellingborough - Whatley Quarry stone train.
11:37 (at Bedwyn) Princess Elizabeth. Victoria - WSR.

Let's hope that the controller on duty allows the charter to run ahead of the stone train. <BJ>

The stone train is running west so will presumably be empty so not too slow .I think they run at 60 mph.

It should be well out of the way as it's due through Racecourse two minutes before Lizzie leaves after the water stop.

Timed one minute apart - does the signalling here even permit that?

Saw the train at Barnes - a marvellous deep bark as she opened up for the junction and the climb to Barnes Bridge. Raised a few heads from their mobiles on the platform!

Thanks Martin, very much appreciated! Very nearly didn't go out for Lizzie today as after 6 long, tiring days at work, I fancied a lie in. I'm so pleased I chose to go out for her today!

It proves that you can still get some stunning images even in the height of summer . That maroon looks brilliant against the clear blue sky and summer greens

Agree that this is a lovely image nicely captured in a very photogenic spot. Was tempted by this trip despite the motive power on the rear as why would you not want a ride with Lizzie? I decided otherwise and have just looked at a few early videos on YouTube. Was amazed at the speedy although gentle start from Reading and then saw what was happening at the rear. OK - hot day, cautious attitude etc etc. But I will wait for when I can get something more authentic.

Hope everyone on board enjoys their day though.

Same here, on all counts. It is good to hear that characteristic exhaust note of Lizzie again. Hope she gets to do proper steam next time out and for the rest of the season. Out of interest, is that the usual Vacuum Braked CathEx Set?

We intend doing the Marches Train in the hope that even if it is a vacuum braked set, having the diesel in Bristol will be close enough for it to act as a 'rescue diesel'. There is an issue with the outline timings though. By the time the train gets out of Shrewsbury Station and into the loop, there's going to be less than 2 hours to detach the loco; turn it on the triangle; get back; water and service it, and get the consist back into the station to pick up the passengers for the return. Could be the sort of operational reason for a tail gunner. Will ask the question before booking.

Caught her at Aldermaston this morning going like the clappers and sounding awesome, you could hear the roar for ages!

Video here but YouTube seem to have reduced the quality somewhat sorry

Very nice shot James. I was videoing nearby. I'm stood under the trees to the right of your shot.

The loco was working well with nice clag accompanied by nice sunlight. As you mentioned, the sound of the engine was superb. [IMG]

The diesel was working but we all knew beforehand that it would make an appearance, so no nasty surprises there. <BJ>
