76084 now confirmed in HR, also the B1 is now a candidate for Whitby-Battersby. Chris Price has also hinted at another guest on facebook - "Hoping for one other little surprise as well", although little is apparently not a clue! This means the line-up should be: 2807, 7822, 76084 (W), 76079 (W), 80136, 6046, 45428 (W), 44806, 61264 (W), 63395 + a possible 4th visitor.

Sounds like an awesome line up.

Sadly I have realised that the gala is the weekend I return from my holiday!

    There's always next year.....

Can't wait to see my favourite loco on the 1 in 49! I missed it last time. Should be good seeing 2807 and the S160 and comparing their performances. The sight of 2 76000s working together for the first time since the 60s will be an awesome sight!

Could be wrong but I'm sure I saw a picture of 76017 and 76079 double-heading at the Mid Hants around the mid 90s.

All the same, will be some sight seeing '79' and '84' together at the Moors. :)

Dive into amazing locomotive history at North Yorkshire Moors Railway’s Autumn Welsh themed Steam Gala

Those with a passion for steam locomotives should head over to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway as it holds its annual Autumn Welsh Steam Gala event from Friday September 30th until Sunday 2nd of October.

With over eight different locomotives in steam, there will be plenty to see and do! Our own home fleet for the weekend consists of two “Black Five” class locomotives, 45428 Eric Treacy (acting as 45344) and 44806 (acting as 44776), both locomotives masquerading as engines from Croes Newydd shed. Also running is our “Standard 4” class 76079 (acting as 76038 of Machynlleth) and our resident B1 61264 which has links with Wales in that it was the only LNER design locomotive to be sent to the famous Barry Scrap Yard!

“B1” class 61264. 44806 and 61264 have recently returned to running at the NYMR after long overhauls and repairs.

80136 will also be joining the fleet after recently returning back to traffic in August, with one of the railways quickest turnarounds with the boiler being installed and passing her insurance exam just one month later! - a very quick turnaround indeed! 80136 spent time in Wales running at Machynlleth! 6046, a 2-8-0 USATC class S160, which has been in service during the summer, will also be running.

There will also be some special guest visitors to the tracks like locomotive 2807, a Great Western Railway heavy freight locomotive dating from 1905, which spent the years 1911 – 1919 hauling coal from South Wales mines. During the Great War, 2807 was involved with the “Jellicoe Specials” to move Welsh Coal to Scapa Flow to fuel the Grand Fleet, working such trains from South Wales as far as Lancashire.

2807 is joined by the “Standard 4” class 76084 – sister to our own - which was bought for £7,500 in 1982 and resided in a private back yard before a 16 year-long restoration, costing £750,000, was completed. She returned to traffic in 2013 and has since had a further £80,000 investment to make her mainline ready, with August of this year being her first main line run.

Completing the line-up is the Great Western “Manor Class” number 7822 Foxcote Manor, which only returned to the tracks earlier this year after undergoing extensive boiler repairs. 7822 is synonymous with Cambrian and Great Western lines in North Wales and during its life in service she hauled trains on the Cambrian Coast, the Shrewsbury to Machynlleth line and the now closed Ruabon to Barmouth line.

We are very pleased to announce a special visitor and a first for over 150 years. The narrow-gauge locomotive Britomart from the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railway and a "bug box" Ffestiniog Coach. A temporary track will be laid through the famous foot tunnel at Grosmont that connects the village to the Motive Power Depot. This tunnel is part if the original Whitby to Pickering railway and has never seen had a steam locomotive pass through it in its 184 year history. When Britomart pulls its first train through the tunnel this will be the first train to pass through in 171 years. This truly is a history making event and yet another reason to come to what promises to be an already wonderful event.

    Additional Activities

During the weekend, stations along the line will be hosting special events of their own:

On the Friday and Saturday, Grosmont Motive Power Depot will be carrying out lifting demonstrations with our steam crane.

Our Autumn Steam Gala Beer Festival will see Levisham and Goathland offering a wide selection of real ales from local breweries such as Brass Castle, Helmsley Brewing Co and Whitby brewery.

Presumably the new general manager needs a narrow gauge fix?! Certainly something different for the Moors, well done to those involved in making it happen.

I take it that Britomart will not be getting offloaded at Newbridge but is likely to go direct to Grosmont.
Hope it is well chained down on the lorry.

I'd heard a rumour that PW were to be asked to lay a third rail from New Bridge to Grosmont. To make it easier, though, the rails behind the loco were to be lifted and put in front of it as the loco went along.;)

Will be nice to see how a baby Hunslet copes with the 1 in 49. I take it that it will be limited to shuttles. I can't see it managing 7 mark 1s without rear-end assistance.

Somebody on the lineside Saturday said they were borrowing an old Guinness converter chariot suitably altered to 4' 81/2" for the event. Lineside so it must be true. :D

Not quite a gala, but the NYMR has five locos out today for the normal service! 2807 on its first day, USATC 6046, 76079, 61624 and 63395, so a bit of an LNER feel as well

Can anyone clarify whether the Battersby runs are covered by a day rover for the gala? Or is it an additional fare?
