    3205 would've been a great addition

Does that mean that it will take up all the paths between NF and BL though and prevent light engine movements for turning on the triangle?

It would have to be very frequent to prevent any movements on the triangle.

If the NR times match up nicely, it should be possible to turn locos and run a shuttle to Taunton. Thankfully the ability to 'lock in' a loco at the triangle, freeing a token up for a shuttle will help.

Would need a lot of timetable planning though, can't say I envy my colleagues that'll be looking at it! ;-)

  5. Travel along the Barnstaple Branch during 2016 Autumn Steam Gala

The first two days - 6 & 7 October - of the West Somerset Railway's four day 2016 Autumn Steam Gala offer the rare chance of a trip along part of the Barnstaple Branch. Almost three quarters of a mile was been relaid in recent years as part of the Norton Triangles project. Gala visitors will have the opportunity to travel in Autocoach no 233 from Bishops Lydeard to Norton Fitzwarren then along the 'Barnstaple' to just short of the long-removed Allerford Bridge, and return.

Also announced is a shuttle service on the third and fourth Gala days - 8 & 9 October - between Taunton and Bishops Lydeard provided by a modern GWR diesel multiple unit.

Does anyone know whether Raveningham Hall is likely to run at the Gala?

5542 as it's the only one which will be attending with auto gear fitted.

Please note that the listing of Auto Coach 233 for the autumn gala is jumping the gun, as of Saturday there was no complete agreement between the owners of the coach and the PLC to bring the coach to the railway due to which transport firm to be used to move the coach.

Is this a helpful comment to put in the public domain?

No doubt these things are being worked out between the relevant individuals and there is more than a month to go.

I've travelled the Barnstaple section of line by GWR class 150 at the away day and brake van ride by steam at steam rally.

But the opptunity to travel by auto coach is intriguing considering they would have go thru my home town wiveliscombe.

From personal experience of arranging such matters, if every Gala waited until all agreements were in place and all transport had been arranged before they were advertised, folk would have to be making decisions about attendance in the week before......

The WSR event page for this gala says M7 30053 will be attending. Still no mention of 6960 but it is down on wsr.org to run next week so I assume it's just been left out by mistake? Still no timetable though.

Whats the plan for the M7 & Auto Train at the weekend?

Has the M7 enough water to do MD-BL?

Looking on wsr.org again, 30053 visited the railway for the SSG '03. Photos show it doubling with 41312, 5764 and 4160 at different times, and one photo I can clearly see just hauling four coaches on it's own so seems it can do the whole line alone but with a reduced set of carriages.

Still another guest? Wsr org says nice loco in action but lists 8

  20. It's the official ASG brochure that says nine locos in action. I could only find eight (including "Kilmersdon") listed on the official ASG webpage so yep maybe there's another guest to be announced I guess! We'll need to wait for official statements.
