Found this article - thought it was interesting to see the choices they had come up for a top 10. Nice to see some coverage for the wider scene http://www.mirror.co.uk/lifestyle/travel/british-breaks/top-10-steam-train-trips-8703435

Give me strength. Take a look at the photo used for the Bluebell Railway (item #10).

Reading between the lines, it looks mostly like a puff-piece for the associated B&Bs. Still, it's apparently No. 5 in the "most read" list, and no such thing as bad publicity.

The picture used for the Strathspey Railway might be of the correct line but it's a Bank Holiday weekend, so the regular newsroom staff are all away, and the Junior Photo Editor can finally get to play with the office copy of PhotoShop for the first time ever...

No, Pete - the KESR mafioso decided that a mere extension to the Hastings main line was too easy-peasy to bother with. They hatched a cunning plan to distract everyone with their supposed extension to Robertsbridge, whilst actually building a carefully camouflaged extension from Junction Road to Sheffield Park via the old line through Heathfield. In a master stroke of breathtaking audacity, the boys at Rolvenden Shed will mount a hostile take-over bid for the Bluebell's U-Class, and through services from Tenterden Town to East Grinstead will commence in the near future!!

Looks like someone has pointed out the error to DM. we now have a picture of the Dukedog at Sheffield Park...

Anyway, a nice bit of free national publicity for the CVR and others..

I have to say the Mid Suffolk Railway has passed me by. Completely. However, they have a gala on 10 Sept so who knows. Now if the recommended B&B did online booking, didn't charge breakfast as an extra and if the MSLR website actually told you where they are..... nope cant be bothered.

The problem is that, with the best will in the world, no one is going to pay £170 B&B to pay £7 for a Lakeside and Hatherthwaite Railway ticket. I am sure 90% of their customers are either taking a break on the drive to the coast or are doing the lake ferry or..........its raining.

I sort of feel that "Rail Loop" could do a good spoof involving certain bottom of the market B&Bs and failing railways. Me, I'm to subtle.

The Mid Suffolk is actually worth a journey - the best presented 'minor line' that I have been to. Nice location, very smart site (no linear scrapyard!), nice little museum and cafe, regular tours of their shed, lovely four wheel carriages, can walk the whole line on a neighbouring path, all great!

It does look good, I'm on a photo charter there soon, there's only a very short running line but a lot of interest crammed into a small area.

The Mid Suffolk is a gem, very much in the true tradition of railway preservation. Not for those who are only interested in locos with a BR number, though. I'm planning on a visit this weekend. Don't tell SWMBO, though.
