Sound logic but it hasnt been common for WC to run the same loco successive days such as Dalesman/Fellsman schedule for example.

Might 45699 be due for a washout?

But their starting points were York and Carnforth, not the same opportunity for the LE movement as Carnforth to Crewe.

Update, apparently no reported problem with Galatea.....

Yes I am an active volunteer
The update email to passengers says:-

scheduled locomotive 45699 Galatea has suffered from a hot box axle on a recent move and despite the best efforts of the locomotive owners it will not be ready for the train this Sunday.

Very true. The only observation being made is that it has not been common for a 10A loco to work turn about. There are obvious reasons to support either position.

Actually not quite true - for the Dalesman trains, steam came on at Hellifield so the engine movement probably less than running to Crewe from Carnforth

Quite so and underlines the normal WC policy of not using the same loco succesively even when originating at the home depot.
Perhaps it is about FTRs which cannot be done for a loco out on the road and not enough time after it gets back?

I thought a further FTR was not required for consecutive days with the loco being kept in steam.

Perhaps a shortened form of FTR is undertaken in such circumstances? Some examination must be necessary between the two turns to ensure nothing has developed on the road?
Assuming so, time might be an issue if late getting on shed too.

Interesting thought...I wonder how often an FTR is required for loco's running the Jacobite service.

Probably akin to a heritage line where a pre service daily exam is conducted? Likewise NYMR Whitby?

Can't see it having been mentioned here, but North Wales Coast tomorrow only has steam now from Chester to Holyhead to Chester !!!!!

Yet more farce from dobbo on this trip which I'm booked on

    Routing changed to omit Altrincham
Spurious gen as to why Galatea isn't running
Now a greatly shortened steam section

The latter seems to have been known yesterday as RTT and uksteam have been updated accordingly for loco change at Chester, yet punters kept in the dark !!!

I doubt any recompense as the spurious t&c's will no doubt caviat all the above farces

    Once again poor customer service......

It's very probable that the change of route is due to Scots Guardsman not gauged for the CLC.
Where's the spurious gen re Galatea.
Unless it's posted by someone from RTC or WCR then you should know better than to rely on others, I only go by what I hear unofficially, therefore never 100% reliable.
The RTC web site has been updated with the changes but I don't know when that happened.

Spurious gen re Galatea is Etc advising in email it ran a hot box, when its actually fit for traffic

CLC was never likely i suspect nor steam from Piccadilly, nothing to do with Scot which was only in the frame from Wed according to rtc

Also official timings from rtc only were issued on Tues 30th, but had been in RTT since 21st Aug and hadn't changed

RTC very rarely update their passenger's

In this day of modern communication and email it would only take a minute to compose an email whilst they update the website

I should imagine it'll be shrugs of shoulders from them tomorrow when challenged by disgruntled passengers

I take it then your first two comments above are facts that you can substantiate?

Hotbox was commented on by yourself in post 365 further up this thread

This same tour ran on 21st Aug to the same routing with no Altrincham available

Place yourself the position of joe public / bert and ada from say Altrincham , they booked expecting to turn up at their local station at a decent hour for a day out behind steam

Tomorrow they turn up for a road coach to Stockport to find no steam on the train when they get there.

Can you imagine how they feel ?

Hardly inspired to rush back to a steam trip I expect, having "expected" two simple things not delivered, I.e steam from their home station

Must be groundhog day... Anyway, write a letter to RTC if you are that aggrieved by a short-notice change of steam mileage. It sounds operational to me, maybe to account for an FTR exam as a result of last month's failure.

What did I say in post 374?

No point in going any further as your mind is made up.
