Times on RTT for a Derby to Skegness and return WCRC railtour on Sunday 25th September. Out via a reversal at Grantham, returns direct.

Rumour on Facebook is it's 45699, but nothing on WCRC website or UKSteam, and there are no water stops booked. Anyone know any more?

Wonder if it's top and tail with a diesel so steam to Grantham then diesel to Skegness with Galatea tender first at the rear. There is also a path from Skegness to Carnforth 15 minutes after arrival at Skegness.

Could this be for Galatea to return to base leaving the excursion to return to Derby diesel hauled?

Makes sense that it will be dragged to Skegness, as the run to Grantham would turn the formation around. However, the LE move could in theory be the DL run home after being released. In the process of booking due to the rarity value, and to compensate for the Buxton Spa steam no-show.

What's the point of dragging Galatea tender first to Skeggie when they could just run it straight back to Carnforth from Grantham?

The Grantham stop is on the outward journey, so that would be a pretty short steam leg.

It's timed at 95mph, so I doubt it.

A good example of how history can get distorted, those with a passing interest in railways will now think BR Jubilees were red.

And why will that be important?

Now booked on this- apparently first steam to link Derby with Skegness in 55 years, although with hindsight, I suspect it will be the first organised by the charity in that amount of time. All in a good cause, anyway. Stock being stored overnight at Burton, steam to Grantham with DL on rear, then potential for clean steam back to Derby. Well, that's the plan, anyway.

The Skegness to Carnforth move is the empty stock off a tour to Weston-super-Mud on the Saturday.

I noticed this in the Telegraph's article but their website is such a horror to post on that I just left the readers in blissful ignorance. :(

So one can make a success of a tour from nowhere to nowhere else. If I lived in Skeggy I might well be attracted by Weston super Mare.;)

Ah, even better... Was speculating about 45699's availability with fellow passengers on the way down from York behind 46233. When was the last time a Scot ran out of Derby (no Bonnie Prince Charlie jokes...)?
