One of those things I guess, and it's not as though its practical to keep more than one in steam on the off-chance that one will fail the night before.

It hasn't been a particularly lucky itinerary of late, really. Will have to see what the score is on board.

Heard it in my carriage too. Update: it's official that paperwork is to blame, some issue regarding VAB certification.

I had heard that it was the FTR pass paperwork that hadn't been entered onto NR's system in time.

Given that the train doesn't leave Buxton till 15:23, couldn't Leander be run light engine there in time? One would think NR might do their best to help get this trip back on track after a cockup on their part!

Some at NR must be soooo disappointed this year at the lack of a fire risk ban, they have to resort to this excuse, once is possibly a mistake, twice is enough for a word from the top 'again' , remember, it could be Flying Scotsman next time, then you will be for it ....

Assuming the delay was their end and not at the VAB's.

RTC representative (not steward) on train at Preston stated that paperwork was submitted on Wednesday and Leander was already being steamed when NR informed WCRC that the loco could not run as it was not currently registered for main line use. I don't have any more details. I left at Buxton, nice day, nice scenery - no steam. Back home 7 hours earlier than scheduled.
