    Hello everyone,

My name is Aaron and I am new to this forum.

My fiancé, father, a friend and I are currently in the process of setting up a museum in Gloucester, UK dedicated to the Gloucester Railway Carriage and Wagon Company (1860-1986). The museum was founded by us in March 2016.

One of our aims is to purchase, acquire and gather together surviving examples of the Companies rolling stock and other related items, so that we can preserve the not otherwise preserved items for future generations. The surviving stock at the moment known is approximately 57 items of rolling stock.

    Thank you,

    Aaron, Leo, Paul and Alan

I think you would be wise to add "not otherwise preserved" to your aims. For example goods wagons built by GRC & WC already preserved on a heritage railway may not be candidates for your museum

Thank you again threelinkdave, the museum notes what you have said and we more also that there are 57 different items of rolling stock still surviving, the 57 is the total number of individual items and not duplicates or the same class i.e. Within the 57 there are four different Mk 1's but there are something like 20-30 Gloucester built Mk 1's surviving and we would only look at purchasing 1 example of each which is a total of 4.

We would also look at purchasing examples of surviving stock which hasn't yet been fully restored.

Nice idea to set up a GRC&W co museum. There was a London Transport diving car set aside for display in Gloucester some years ago. What happened to that?

Do you have a site for the museum in mind?

The London Transport Driving Car was sent to the London Transport Museum many years ago and is still there today. The London Transport Museum have about 4-5 Gloucester built Underground/overground stock including a cab only which is used as a simulator.

There are a few sites we are looking at in Gloucester, one being the old Horton Road MPD or alternatively, we are looking for somewhere in or near the docks area close to the former works site on Bristol Road.

Whilst I was in South America a few years back I took several pictures of makers plates, the annoying thing is I know there was one on a GRC&W coach, but I cannot find it, it was positioned in a similar place to this one.
I will continue to look and let you have a copy if I find it.

Thank you RalphW, I look forward to seeing it if you can locate it. Do you know what railway the carriage is on in South America?

Hallo, Aaron - an interesting project, about a subject which is, for various (and quite understandable) reasons, a bit of a Cinderella aspect of railway preservation.

By the way, your website link is incomplete; it works if you change it to this, though:-

    With best regards,

£2495???? I know heritage commands a price but surely 2495p is closer the mark, the new owner would need to save the rest for the restoration cost!
